Taxes on gambling winnings were on the books before the lotteries so I don't know how IRS could justify taxing a $1300 trifecta winner at a race track and not tax a multi-million dollar lottery winner. I agree it would be nice if all gambling winnings were exempt but they are classified as income just like savings accounts, stocks and bonds. US state lotteries could learn from the Aussies, all lottery prize money is tax-free in Australia and winners can remain anonymous, which most do. Also, if you win $53 million, you get $53 million, they don't have any annuity nonsense. That's what America needs - TRUTH IN JACKPOTS!

I know that our elected officials are dumb, but it would really be a real dumb-dumb for them to put 90% tax rate on wins. No one would play the jackpots. Why would they? I sure as ..... wouldn't. But I do believe there will be more taxes on the horizon. Bummer!!!

How does the POWERBALL lottery estimates its estimated jackpot?Reply
My educated guess would be that the starting jackpot comes from a reserve. The estimated jackpots comes from experience, previous results etc ie at a jacpot level how many people will buy ticket and average number of tickets.

I understand multi-state games like PB and MM have to have higher odds than individual states games with lower odds. But what was wrong with 5/55 + 1/42 PB prior to January 2009, or even 5/53 + 1/42 PB prior to August 2005 with jackpot odds of 1/120 million? PB jackpots haven't been any higher since January than what they were a year ago before the latest matrix expansion. Doesn't make any sense at all to go into a public forum and shoot your mouth off saying things like that. OF COURSE YOU WOULD NOT TELL ANYBODY! If I had a system to predict winning numbers on a consistent basis in the bigger jackpot games, I sure as hell wouldn't say anything either. Why would you? Split the jackpots with tons of people? I'm kinda thinking MM and PB already have a system in place where once the time expire at 9:45 and 10:45 to play your tickets. They probably look on a big national computer screen seeing all the numbers played in the system before hand and put magnetic balls, leveled at medium to stronger field of the absent #'s that wasn't played in the system that goes straight to the top.
