Why people who won the jackpot frequently decide to choose money cash over annuity money?
Many people think they can beat the rate of return on an annuity by investing the money on their own. That's debatable and depends upon a lot of factors, but it's a fact the lottery entity doesn't have to pay taxes on the investment income, so that should be a consideration. For some - such as myself - choosing the CV option makes much more sense since we're over 30 40 50 past a certain age and want to do things with or enjoy the bulk of the money while we still can. (if I had known I was going

$450 MILLION: Powerball lottery jackpot nears record
Thanks a million for that detailed analysis! I remember that Jackpot vividly and was shocked myself when it wasn't hit.
Casual players seem to demand that the JP reach new heights before they break out into a frenzy. While the cash value is one of the highest, the every day Joe is dazzled by the annuity figure. More than 48 hours left and there's no telling how they will react to the possible bump tomorrow.
That being said, I want this baby to roll!

$450 MILLION: Powerball lottery jackpot nears record
The chances of it rolling once again i guess would depend on the amount of tickets sold for the drawing. The last drawing tickets sales totaled about 146 mill so that would be about 73 mill combinations played. Since the odds are around 175 mill to 1 then if i am figuring this right that would come out to about 42% of the combinations were played. I am sure ticket sales will be higher for this coming drawing. If ticket sales for this drawing were say 250 mill that would be 125 mill combinations

Wow! $450 Million Dreams!
$300 Million Dreams... The annuity value, while a great marketing gimmick that misleads many, is meaningless. The estimated cash value is around $300 million. After taxes, it's drops to around $180 million or even less depending on the winner's state. Still a bundle, but nowhere near $450 million.
I've sat out the recent drawings, but may buy a ticket or two for the next one, and definitely for the one after that, if it rolls again ... at that point, for me, it's worth playing - even though t

It's time the lottery needs to stop releasing a person name and picture when a big win is won!
I find that people who don't act childish with their win-fall usually do well, and the media backs off within weeks. Remember Gloria from Florida? No one talks of her much now as it is the case with many others who have won in the past. If you want to do big things, do so discreetly.
As far as taxes are concerned I don't know why people obsess over monies Uncle Sam snags off the top. After all you won this money and hopefully you weren't banking your future on such a win. Figures on the

Retired Brooklyn bus driver hits $7M Cash4Life jackpot
I tried doing another search on NY news site but had no luck. Perhaps the error was fixed or it was a mistake on my part where I mistook the $4.3 million lump sum as before taxes.
This prize still doesn't make sense to me as $1,000 per day comes out to $365k per year with a 20-year max cap. That means if the winner took the annuity payments it would amount to $7.3 million before taxes. I don't think anyone in their right mind would choose that option if they can get $7 million right up front.

Powerball is kicking it up-10 millionaires were made tonight!!.
As of PM 01/28 MUSL is projecting the next draw to be about $322 million annuity.
If no winner Saturday, jackpot will be $317 annuitized.
Jeez. You know sales are declining when the first advertised value of a jackpot in the $300 million range turns out to be overly optimistic. I was figuring that if the next one was 320ish that 2 more would probably increase it by close to $100 million, and that anything in the 400+ range should easily hit 500 if it rolled. Maybe that last is still tr

Powerball is kicking it up-10 millionaires were made tonight!!.
Extremely unlikely. The previous increase was advertised as $31 million (annuity value), but the actual sales were only enough fo an increase of about $27 million. That means the current increase of $28 million they're advertising now is really a slightly bigger increase (last night's $261 million would have been a bit less than 261). Getting to $300 million would require a far bigger increase than the MUSL people expect, and their recent expectations have already been a bit optimistic.

Claiming as a legal entity
good luck to you! Just make sur you have everyone in the group sign a contract stating how the group will claim the prize ie lump sum vs annuity, who will be the primary name, where the tickets will be purchased, how often an d by who....etc. Include a provision about personal tickets if someone should purchase a winner. Make sure everyone has a copy of the tickets. THen relax, purchase your own personal tickets at another location, at a different time with a receipt, to protect you from the grou
