They posted the $5 LL winner, and he made the news too! (San Diego, strike one for SoCal)

And he's going to take the annuity. Not a bad option, as he's retired and this will give him steady income stream that falls well under the top tax bracket.

Would you be happy winning a lottery jackpot of any amount?
I have been playing longer than any annuity pays out so I don't play for just any jackpot.
It has to be at a certain minimum level.
At this point I would feel chumped if I beat 260 million to one odds and got four and a half million after taxes.

How can I remain anonymous
Under the Texas Public Information Act, a winner's name, hometown, the amount of their prize, the date of the drawing, the date the prize is claimed, whether the ticket is a Quick Pick or Self Selection of numbers, a cash value option or 30-year annuity, and where the ticket was sold is generally considered public information.
How can I remain anonymous when I start winning jackpot(s)? I've heard where ppl start an LLC but unclear what to do

Couple wins $3M jackpot 27 years after wife's numbers last came up
That is the nightmare scenario I have heard so often from those who play their own numbers. They never want to miss a draw in case the stars line up in their favor.
I am sorry to hear this happened to.
I agree with you as well on the puzzling annuity selection.

Sick of traffic, man stops and buys lottery tickets... and wins $5 million
I was thinking the same thing tooDrenick. Its seems to be happening more and more these days. Maybe its prudence on their part? Maybe its a lack of faith in our financial institutions after the 2008 collapse? Maybe it avoids the vultures? Not sure, but i just cant see myself opting for an annuity.
Big congrats to him and his family non-the-less. I love the stories when the winners get their tickets by intuition or some random occurrence. I most certainly love when long time players get their

Why Do You Think Lottery Winners Always Take The Cash Option?
I play two sets of numbers on Powerball and Mega Millions. When the jackpot gets over 200 million, I play the same numbers twice. Meaning if I hit the jackpot, I have two winning tickets. I would then take half lump sum and half anniuty no matter what my financial advisors tell me to do. Which of course they would tell me to take it all in a lump sum. I know taking half of it in an annuity will leave plenty of money on the table because of interest rates where they are today. But it's all about

$400 MILLION: Powerball lottery jackpot skyrockets
I've actually started only playing the CA Super Lotto Plus. I'm confident enough in my business savvy and ideas that I could turn 5 million into hundreds of millions, the SLP is 20m right now, though. It just came to me the other week, the only reason to play the MM and PB over SLP is if you couldn't turn a few millions into a lot more. Billion dollar businesses have been started for a lot less.
If I ever won just the 8 million SLP, I'd just set a few million off to the side in case things

$400 MILLION: Powerball lottery jackpot skyrockets
It's amazing that it didn't get hit this week with all those anniversary, birthday and ages type numbers. Eleven people hit five with no Powerball and 108 hit four with the Powerball. Very lucky it didn't get hit but I'll gladly take it.
That said the pot moves on to a $400,000,000 annuity or a one time lump sum of $227,800,000 leaving you a paltry $159,460,000 after your hefty donation to Uncle Sam and the Land of Lincoln if you live in Illinois.
Bad Luck!

Why Do You Think Lottery Winners Always Take The Cash Option?
Age is the factor that concerns me; I've said before that I doubt I have 30 yrs. left on this mortal coil and even if I did, there's a good possibility I might not have the mental capability to remember I'm getting checks by the end of the annuity. No, I want the cash, right now, while I'm still young enough to enjoy and do some good things with it.
As far as investments go, I think I'd opt for safe over high return, at least for most of my winnings. (1% on a hundred million is a million/ye
