SC officials getting nervous that $1.5 billion Mega Millions winner won't claim prize
Here's how a big money winner could end up being a bit of a money loser for South Carolina.
If in a few weeks no one claims a lottery ticket worth $1.5 billion sold in the Upstate, Palmetto State lawmakers may have less money to spend in the coming fiscal year.
The state expects to collect $61 million in income taxes as its share of the Mega Millions jackpot if the winner opts to take the money as a lump sum.
The winner still has three months to turn over the ticket to state lottery of

California office pool claims $543 million Mega Millions lottery jackpot
By Todd Northrop
The California Lottery says last month's $543 million Mega Millions jackpot was won by 11 members of an office pool that played on a whim.
A Lottery statement Friday says Roland Reyes and the others showed up at its Hayward office on the east side of San Francisco Bay the day after the July 24 draw.
The members declined to say where they work, other than that it is in the financial industry and they plan to keep their jobs despite winning $47.5 million each.

Cash4Life Game Odds
I read here often that many players are really 'playing' for the second prize when they play Mega Millions and Powerball. OK, if that's all you really are hoping for then the Cash4Life game would seem to be the better game to play to win a million dollars.
It actually may be a lot better than the odds that are posted for winning the 2nd prize or a million dollars. For over three years I have noticed the posted odds don't match the odds I get when using a lottery odds calculator.
I am just

Already!?!? Wasn't suppose to happen until October 31!
The move is meant to boost headline-grabbing jackpots for the multi-state lottery game, which is offered in more than 40 states.
Mega Millions will make the price change and tweaks to the game for the Oct. 31 drawing, state Gaming Commission general counsel Edmund Burns wrote in a memo.
The new game rules and ticket price were already adopted by the consortium of states that run the multi-state game, but the rules came to light only

FBI warns of Mega Millions lottery fraud
The FBI's Atlanta office is warning of a scam involving the Mega Millions Lottery that uses the agency's name, as well as the name of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC).
People who are contacted receive very convincing fake letters that name the above agencies, and the recipients are told that they are lottery winners, FBI spokesman Stephen Emmett said. The advance-fee part of the scam begins by requiring the so-called winner to transfer, by wire, thousands of dollars to the lot

Deadline approaching for three unclaimed $50,000 lottery tickets in Virginia
Virginia lottery players: Better hurry and check your Powerball ticket from the historic $1.6 billion jackpot in January.
Three tickets in Virginia, worth $50,000 each, have not yet been claimed from that big drawing, officials said.
But the deadline to claim the prizes is fast approaching. Lottery officials said the tickets expire 5 p.m. July 12. In Virginia, winning lottery tickets expire 180 days after the drawing. So the clock is ticking.
Two of the winning tickets were sold in Nort

Why Do You Think Lottery Winners Always Take The Cash Option?
I found this article online from 2012 and it made me rethink the annunity option:
If You Win The Mega Millions Jackpot, Don't Take The Annuity!
Yesterday, we asked readers how they'd take their lottery winnings if they won this week's Mega Millions jackpot. The choice is between a lump sum and annuity.
Mega Millions describes the options: Annuity option: Provides annual payments over a 26-year period. For every $1,000,000 in the jackpot, you will receive approximately $385,000 per year
