$235 MILLION: Powerball lottery jackpot soars
By Todd Northrop
There was no jackpot winner in the Saturday night drawing of the multi-state Powerball lottery game, causing the grand prize to increase to an estimated $235 million for Wednesday's drawing.
Saturday was the 10th consecutive drawing without a jackpot winner. The jackpot run started June 26 as a $40 million jackpot.
The estimated cash value for the new jackpot is $136.5 million. After-tax cash and annuity prize amounts are reported state-by-state on the Jackpot Analysis

NJ Mega Millions lottery winners claim $30M prize
Great story, congratulations to the Smiths!
However, the story neglects to tell us if the winning ticket was a quick pick or self pick and if they chose annuity or cash. Just curious.
Maybe the new privacy law in Jersey has kicked in somewhat.

Different totals in Jackpot Analysis
Ahhh. Thanks ttech10. I was trying to figure out what the 3rd column was and now that i know, it still makes no real sense to include it in the grand scheme of things since everyone will be paying the IRS 39.6% and not 25% anyway.
As for the cash value, I don't really know what's been going on with them lately. The PB cash value used to be at ~62%-65% of the JP amount. This time around it's been consistently below 60%. MM was usually between 70%-75%. Now it's at 68%. Seems as if both games a

Jackpot-Winning Powerball Ticket Worth $131.5 Million Sold in Philadelphia
MIDDLETOWN, PA., JUNE 23, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- One jackpot-winning Powerball ticket worth $131.5 million from the June 22 drawing was sold at Federal Beer, 1440 Federal St., Philadelphia.
The ticket correctly matched all five white balls, 13-19-23-33-57, and the red Powerball 28, to win a prize of a $131.5 million annuity, or $77.4 million cash, less 25 percent federal withholding.

Euromillions now at 157 Million.
And that's the way it should be. Advertize an amount, give that amount. The annuity vs lump sum amount is all smoke and mirrors nonsense.
GOOD LUCK, JOSH!!!!!!!!!!!

Can MM & PB Start Being Honest? Must this farce continue?
The reason is Sales and Marketing. They do it because it works. People fall for it.
Obscuring the true value of things for Sales and Marketing purposes is the American way. Like they sell you a $800 smartphone for $300, but what they are really doing is making you take out a loan on the phone and if you end your 2 year contact early, they come after you for the deficiency.(they refer to as the ETF)
The jast big jackpot was advertised as over half a billion dollars, $590M. But it was only a

Is it a blessing or a curse winning the lottery really late in life??
I've given a lot of thought to this, ever since one of those lump sum or annuity? posts. I commented that I opt for the lump sum because I might not be around in 30 years to see the last check...or if I am, I might not remember my name to endorse it.
If I won such a huge sum of money, I might just buy or have built a luxury nursing home/long-term care facility. It wouldn't have to be huge, perhaps only a dozen or so units, enough for me and some of my peer group; my best friends from child

Can you see yourself selling your winning MM/PB ticket to JGWentworth etc?
No, cause I would never take the annuity in the first place,
I do think their TV ads are funny, bunch ppl. riding on a bus singing call J. G. Wentworth when you need cash now LMAO
and then old J G is in the drivers seat, subliminal message anyone ?

Mega Millions multi-state lottery to get harder to win in Oct.
I will wait and see what the prize structure looks like but with 18 million to 1 odds for second prize I doubt they will have a big enough prize for me to consider it worth the bother.
I will probably wait until the Jackpot is over $650,000,000 before I buy a ticket.
Consider the second prize odds about what a 6/51 jackpot game would be.
For 6/51 odds second prize had better be a $25,000,000 annuity.

Mega Millions multi-state lottery to get harder to win in Oct.
This sucks! This smells like a proposal that came from someone linked to the NY Lotto game. 75 numbers! That is crazy! Or maybe someone confused raising Social Security age with raising pool of 5 up to the 75 mark.
Actually, I won't boycott the game. It brings in all of my significant numbers so I will play on. Maybe I might get lucky and win the first ever billion dollar jackpot! While they are at making changes, why don't they scrap the whole annuity thing and make whatever they adve
