Annuity or Lump Sum?
Lump sum. I used to think about getting the annuity, but since then I've figured that I'd most likely want to just get the money and not have to be connected to the lottery for X amount of years. It would be nice though if I could choose after I've won, instead of having to choose at the time of purchase. Who knows, I might end up with a different choice depending on the amount that is ultimately won. Also since I plan on splitting with some family, it would allow me to collect via lump

TX Lotto players - Lottery Commission's sneaky rule change
Well, we can hope they may change. I think they will see a drop in ticket sales as players realize that jackpots are not climbing as high as they once were. The game will just not be as compelling. My understanding is that previously 50% of ticket sales went into the prize pool. So it seems that they were overfunding the prize pool if ticket sales normally ranged from 1.2 to 1.9 million per draw (after deducting expenses). I'm not sure what the percentage is now, but it must be less that 50.

Changes to Texas Lotto
Texas Lottery has changed the Texas Lotto game to add a Texas Lotto with Extra for an extra $1. Jackpot is starting higher, too at $5m annuity, $3.5 cash. For an extra $1 you can get higher prizes - you can get your $2 back if you hit 2 of 6 on a 6 ball game, and the other non jackpot winnings go up +10 +100 +10,000. The odds go from 1:71.1 to 1:7.9 to win a prize. I'll try the extra for a few draws. Better chance to get your $2 back than your $1. Any thoughts?

Apples to Apples?
Both Mulit State Lotteries are at 50m annuity. Mega Millions Cash Value stands at 36.9m, on the other hand, Powerball stands at 31.4m It took 6 consecutive drawings without a winner for MM to arrive at this point. It only took the Powerball two consecutive drawings.

$320 MILLION: Powerball lottery jackpot goes through the roof
I find it odd and a little funny that some of you here seem to think that once you win a lottery jackpot of this size that you're supposed to place it in the bank, leave it there (don't touch!) and go about your life normally, as you are living now. Nobody suggested that you blow through your money that's for idiots like David Edwards. We are talking about things we would do if we won, which is the entire point of playing in the first place. To buy and do things you would never have been abl

If you really were brave/crazy enough to choose the annunity...
Nobody can foresee what prices are going to be decades down the road. Someone who won a state lotery some 30 years ago might have thought an annuity was a great idea, but towards the end of the payments it might have bought a car but not a house. In the 1970s Mercury (Remember them?) used to run an ad in the car mags, Capri, the Sexy European for under $2300. Just something to think about.

If you really were brave/crazy enough to choose the annunity...
From Powerball FAQ on USA MEGA: What happens if I win an annuity and die before all the installments have been paid? Your designated beneficiaries will receive the remaining payments.
