20 co-workers to split $421M Powerball jackpot
I had to re-read the article as the numbers weren't adding up in my head. The article mentions that each of the 20 winners were getting approx. $12.7 million AFTER taxes. The lump sum cash amount is $254.6 so divided by 20 it comes out to $12.73 million. Am I missing something here or is TN exempt from both state and federal taxes? under the standard federal tax law married couples filing jointly are taxed at 39.6% after the initial $466,950 so the balance assuming no deductions are used would b

British Columbia Lottery taking bets on US election
Those on SS and Disability will be getting a chump change $2.00- 3.00 COLA raise this year and Medicare will go up $21. That's how tax and spend democrats take care of people.
Will somebody please give Coin Toss a copy of the Constitution, specifically Article II. The poor soul believes the President mails out SS checks.
There was no COLA last year because gas prices were 'down'.
And don't forget the fact your Republican House changed the COLA formula. (Article I of the Constitution

Cynthia Stafford's Home In Foreclosure and Bentley For Sale
LOL
Reading all this reminded me of an article I read a few days ago about Cynthia. Can't remember the site where I saw it but at the end there were comments that people wrote about her and the article, and someone wrote to check out LP, they like to rag on her or some words to that effect.
I didn't think too much of it until I read through this thread.

Illinois woman wins $500 a week for life
When reading this article, it wasn't clear if the father was gifting the ticket to her?
Otherwise wouldn't she have known when she got the ticket that she won? Sorry, just confused on how the father had the ticket...
Nice story overall! Congrats to the lady!!
A gal in my town won 1k a week for life and it was fun to read her article.

Parking garage attendant wins lottery, immediately quits job
Good for him but look what the article says, then look at the ticket...one number different.
When they scanned the ticket, it came back that he had in fact matched all six numbers 2, 16, 19, 33, 30, and the Cash Ball 3 .
They must have made a mistake in the article about it....should be 39 for the 5th one.

Another retailer charged in Connecticut Lottery scheme
There is another article in here that describes how they did it. This is just a follow up article.
In a nut shell they were able to slow down their terminals while running reports, then requesting
tickets to print. They could see on the screen if the instant tickets were winners before they actually printed out.
At that point they were allowed to cancel the sale before the ticket actually printed.

Homeless man helped by lottery winner arrested for failing to register as sex offender
Yes, I pretty much agree. I didn't read the entire article, but I get the gist of it.
The other day, when the article was about the woman who gave her 200 to help him, the only thing I thought was wrong was this: Why would anyone be there, homeless, or otherwise. Massachus. is a place of horrible cold, and very unfriendly to truckers for another.
And now, this news.

Why you might go bankrupt if your next-door neighbor wins the lottery
You really need to take a Xanax and calm yourself down. There is nothing in this entire article anyone would need to get this worked up about. Common sense alone should tell you it isn't an anti -lottery hitjob. When has having a lottery win in a close vicinity ever decreased lottery sales? Instead people play more. They buy tickets at the same store as the winner.
If all the lottery winners who end up dead, end up bankrupt, end up behind bars, or end up hounded/sued for years doesn't stymie

USA Mega quoted in Washington Post and CNN
The article is pretty good and I'm glad USA Mega got mentioned. That should drive some traffic here. Loan me some money, Todd.
As is almost always the case, though, the comments under the article are entertaining. There's an argument about tipping cab drivers, another about investing, some about spending - one guy said he'd buy the Post and fire everyone. I didn't see any comments about religion, but there were some political slurs. There were only 3-4 comments when I first read it, but th
