Brooklyn teen wins $1,000 a week for life
yes, i read it. and that kid won't last one semester in college. i see by your spelling you didn't. i really don't think that a BMW with a maintenance package or not is that inexpensive. you know it's going to get stolen or totaled. i'd make book on that. any halfway decent college will chew up that 32k a year and there willl be no job when he decides to quit school (which he will). this sheepheads bay street kid should forget about wasting his time and money going to college. he should buy a to

Lottery Changed my Life
My first thought when reading his story was.... wait a minute, he won $315 million and got a check for $113 million?? Do they tax on some sort of sliding scale, where the more you win the higher percentage they keep?? Or maybe he opted for the Take out extra, so I will get a refund option that smart people take. LOL. The annuitized jackpot was $314.9 million, but the cash value was only $170 million. This was back when a much stronger argument could be made for taking the annuity. These

Question about Lump Sum or Annuity
Being 21, you will travel alot, increasing your chances of a car or airplane crash and death. Then, if having chosen annuity, your heirs get zilch. However, I figure if PB and MM are high enough, I play to win jackpot, so that's what I want... not %60-%70 of it - taxes. Lottery is lying to the masses when they post $80m jp as winner gets %60 cash value.$80m/30=$2.66m yearly. I got no prob paying taxes every year, and collecting my %3-%5 interest rate or investment profits. However, gett

Question about Lump Sum or Annuity
Very true in a mathematical sense. $1 mill will return $50k per year @ 5%. So theoretically you would recoup the $400,000 they are stealing from you in 8 years. IN REALITY??? You will likely take the annuity, call JG Wentworth and end up with a lot less than $600k OH YA, you wont even have that problem cuz you dont have a winning ticket. Or do you? Please post it so we cal drool over it. lol.

What does it say on the back of your state's tickets?
The (add state name) Lottery game rules and regulations and (add state name) state law apply to all games, tickets, transactions, drawings, and prizes When I posted that on the other thread, it was almost verbatim what is printed on the back of Kentucky Lottery tickets. It's interesting that on the back of almost every state lottery ticket it says basically the same thing. There is a discussion about a player finding a $1 million flawed ticket in the News Forum, 2200 flawed tickets are out

48 Philly transit workers win $172M Powerball jackpot
Congrats (not really but everyone likes to make like they are happy for others getting lucky winning), BUT this is exactly why I hate lottery pools. You take a huge, lifechanging sum of dough and reduce it to just a nice, little nest egg that requires many younger folk to keep working present job. That $3 mill is about what I would win if I just played and won my state lottery. And folks, that is not $3 mill cash value they won...no it is the annuity value so each will only receive a little over

Retired Illinois couple share $656M lottery jackpot
Thanks, Jill34786, I realized that Todd must have written the article too quickly, and that is why he referred to the annuity amount as the lump sum amount ... then all the math went down hill from there! I wonder if the winner's accountant [experienced accountants, here is your chance to chime in your research results] is going to be a helpful hire by recommending that this winner pay some additional Income Tax % to the Federal IRS this year, before April 2013; so that no penalty % will

Another interesting trip to my local 7-11
Hey Artist, it sounds like a goof on the clerks part-when the clerk makes a mistake on lotto, they HAVE TO BUY THEIR MISTAKE TICKETS,which is no big deal if she had money on her that day, however it's a big mess if she didn't, on the mistake tickets they do allow to see if someone else will buy them, next time i would refuse to take the tickets that were mistakes and then tell her you know that they are allowed to sale mistake tickets to other people, in additon it can be very confusing on lotto

N.Y. woman claims $70 million Powerball jackpot
About $14,000,000 in taxes is allot! The annuitized amount is projected. Investing your cash is better! That annuity could disappear! Don't ever trust the Government!
