Question about Cash or Annuity
I think I stand corrected haymaker. Previously I was under the impression that if multiple Jackpot tickets were presented by the same person,
only one ticket would be honored and paid out. As I continue to ponder this scenario, perhaps the lottery would split this into a
annuity and lump sum payment?

Question about Cash or Annuity
If you were lucky enough to pull that off, only ONE jackpot to a customer. Whether it was two different people or just one individual.
In the situation you propose, you can only do one of two things: Take the lump sum, or take the annuity.
Why don't you flip a coin and decide now?

State cuts lottery winner's benefits
Mac,
Hers was a second chance drawing and with their economy up there, I would REASONABLY lean towards their lotto giving the lump sump(for less). Don't know for sure, just making an educated guess.
As far as Florida is concerned, all of our Million dollar scratch off tix Mega Money is over 20 payments/cash lump sum, FL Lotto Powerball is at 30 payments/cash lump sum, the $2 million(2nd place) winner on the powerball gets a 1 time lump sum NO annuity option.

Powerball at $2.00 - What jackpot level do you start playing?
Not at all surprised that Powerball continues to not meet expectations, I knew it was going to happen when they announced it. They keep screwing with things to try and get those massive jackpots they want and it keeps flying back in their faces. IDK how the company in charge of making this decisions couldn't be embarrassed that after all their fiddling over the last few years to try and get a record breaking jackpot, they have continued to fail.. It also doesn't help that MM is currently (well n

Indiana man wins $5M on scratch-off
Right HaveABall, but if they advertised on the FRONT of the tickets about 30 annuity payments, they would probably see their sales of sratchers decline.
It's the same ol sales gimmick for hawking anything, make all the wonderful claims.......but you must read the fine print, which they will not bring to your
attention.
I had forgotten about the other 10% or so for additional federal tax.

Indiana man wins $5M on scratch-off
Yes, mcginnin56, Ricky's is a good lump sum, net walk away amount, since it was only a 32% lump sum option reduction from the advertised annuity amount. Hopefully, Ricky will not only be thinking about the 25% (initial) federal taxation withdrawn amount but will remember that come next year he'll have to pay the Fed their remaining cut of approximately another 10%. Yikes, don't spend or gift too much of the money these next 12 months Ricky!
Congratulations, Ricky, on your thrilling scratch of

Cash Vs Annuity Payments
Worst economy EVER! , since the great 1929 depression. International banks and corporations as well as State and municipal governments declaring bankruptcy at alarming never seen before rates.
Lowest mortgage rates and home values adjusted for inflation in recent history.
ALWAYS TAKE THE MONEY AND RUN!!! Once your state government's economy is sunk....so are you. What good is an annuity if the government is insolvent and unable to pay it.?

CNN producer tells what it's like to win lottery twice
Many of us do have good reasoning ability, but according to lottoreport, about 18.5 million tickets were sold for the previous ($50 million) PB drawing. At that time MM was offering a bigger prize at the same odds for half as much per chance. I'd say that's a lot of people making a choice that's not based on good reasoning.
FWIW, those 18.5 million tickets contributed almost $11.9 million (cash) to the jackpot. That would increase the advertised annuity value by about $19 million if they jack

$336 million Powerball ticket sold at R.I. supermarket
Yes.....
The next jackpot will be $342 Million and the check will have my name on it.
I will receive the annuity and move to a country that has EuroMillions and become a resident.
I intend to continue playing the lottery and winning huge jackpots in the USA and the EuroMillions country.

A couple of new questions (I think)...cash gifts, pools winning option
as to part
2: does the entire pool have to unanimously choose annuity or cash option?
the answer is yes. ideally it should be decided before the pool starts collecting cash and mentioned to everyone so they understand. remember the lottery only want to deal with 1 person , the pool manager. and sure as heck dont wan tto cut checks for 20 people ea winning ticket.
its just more fun to take to lawyers and argue over in a pool.
