Mega Millions: $168M Christmas Eve lottery jackpot
Same here, the clerk that almost always sells me my tickets knows what I usually choose so when I said cash yesterday she kinda froze for a second since she's so used to hitting the annuity option. When the pot gets big I also start thinking about collecting myself, without a trust or anything, just so I can go through a big thing and since I'd be getting such a huge amount I could move to a better area right away, which would help limit those who could contact me. Of course I still don'

Kentucky lottery winner wastes no time claiming jackpot
I have been saying for years that the annuity amount is false advertising. A few years ago, a guy won a lottery jackpot in a northeastern state that I don't recall and went to court and sued for the advertised jackpot amount to be the cash value amount. The judge told him that he could return his winning ticket for a refund.

Kentucky lottery winner wastes no time claiming jackpot
You have to understand that the larger amount is the ANNUITY! The CASH amount is half of the larger number that's always advertised! It's called the bait and switch game to get more people to play! Meade chose to take the cash option for his winnings, meaning his payout was $9.56 million ( before taxes). After 25% federal and 6% state taxes are withheld, $6.6 million will be wired to his checking account within the next two weeks.

I hate when this happens! Cashier gives me ticket with wrong payment option!
In Texas we must choose cash or annuity at the time of purchase. This is probably different than some other states. We can't cancel a Lotto ticket after purchase. The best way to buy tickets is to use playslips. That way there is no way for the clerk to make a mistake. The only problem I have with playslips is that for some reason, the terminal has a hard time reading the Texas 2 Step playslips. Anyone else in Texas have that experience?

Lottery Jackpot Starter Checks?
I was looking on the PB/MM sites and on the MegaMillions one it says that if you choose annuity the first payment is an immediate cash payment for both MM and PB. On the PowerBall site it mentions that if you choose cash and go to turn in the ticket 2 weeks after the drawing you should get the money within 1-2 business days (presumably since time has already passed for the other states to send in their share of the winnings). Though I'm not sure if it's a joke or something (there's quite

Lotto Maxims
Wasn't any need for sarcasm off or on, I'm talking eons beyond politics, I am talking lotto. Just consdier the stinger threads here on LP regarding the lottery, QP vs PP (Player Picks). Take the Illinois Pick 5 game, I use it as an example because it's drawn every day. 119 jackpots paid so far this year, 104 of the winners played a QP (includes shared jackpots). Think that convinces any of the anti-QP crowd anything? Think again. Then how about anonymous or not, annuity or cash option, et

Canadian woman wins lottery on 18th birthday
Set for Life at 18 years old. Hmmm... I hope it works out that way. Her mother's first reaction of needing a new Camaro right away is a little disconcerting. I think it's probably best if this is an annuity in this case.

Pick 3 'triple' pays out record $2.88M to N.C. Lottery players
By Todd Northrop Triple digits paid off in a big way for North Carolina Pick 3 players in the Monday, Sept. 6 evening drawing. The 2-2-2 combination resulted in a record-setting prize payout of $2.88 million to more than 11,000 winning tickets. This record payout is the highest since the Dec. 25, 2009 drawing, which paid out more than $2.28 million to players who chose the 5-5-5 combination. Monday's drawing was the first time the 2-2-2 combination has been drawn since Pick 3 sales b

Watch Preview of HBO Documentary About Lottery - "LUCKY"
Just finished watching this on HBO, some of the stuff William Bud Post did was ridiculous. He added on like 2-3 rooms on his house and ended up being too heavy so they didn't even have sheetrock, they were just shells of a room, along with buying over 400 pairs of the same color/type of pants at ONE TIME. He got mad at his wife (the 5th or 6th one) and threw all her jewelry into the pool then filled it with dirt. Also he was 1/2 a million in debt after his first annuity payment of ~$500,000 Ther
