Why are payouts on the low side of the big games different?
So. In other words let's say I or anyone hit three and one on mega millions and that's $200 and I think three and one on the Powerball is $100 . why does it have to be that way? If you had just the extra ball you get two dollars or four dollars which I guess that sounds OK. I think mega millions is $10 for two and one in powerball, it's crazy

In California the 2nd place prizes of both Powerball and Mega Millions are rolling mini-jackpots, that's what allows them to get pretty high sometimes. Old thread about Mega Millions
All the banter going on about probability math got me to thinking about an old thread by a very well respected member who many will remember, RJOh. His efforts to find a winning strategy were really interesting. This goes back to 2008 when the MM odds were way lower than they are now. As far as I know he never won a jackpot, or even a signifcant win. Eddessa, Some time ago you posted about someone in San Diego winning the Mega Millions in a discussion about a dearth of jackpot winners in San Diego. The California lottery does not have any control over Power Ball or Mega Millions. There hasn't been a jackpot winner in San Diego since 2013. Why do MegaMillions jackpots grow faster than PowerBall?
The Mega Millions jackpot from Tuesday 5/18/21 was $475 mil (cash value $319.4). No one won that jackpot so it rolled up to $515 mil (cash value $346.3 mil). My guess is that whatever problem is holding up the Illinois drawing numbers is also holding up the release of the Mega Millions prize and jackpot info. It sounds to me like some kind of major problem like a corrupted database or something, because a technical problem like a drawing machine issue would be handled by whatever backup drawing machines they might have. A database problem would require restoring from backups or maybe even more extreme measures, which take a long time. Whatever the
