Lottery dream shattered for N.C. couple
Scratch-off tickets are designed to tease, lots of losing tickets are off by just one digit to encourage players to buy more tickets. If every player who was off by just one digit was awarded $200 taxi fare, the lottery would go broke, this couple got lucky.
Both the couple in Florida who hired a lawyer and this couple who's trying to contract the Attorney General want close to count as a win and it ain't going to happen.

a rumor...don imus to join a state lottery for work
Maybe if someone has offered a $50M/5years contract to Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton to talk on a radio show or to do anything else they should reconsider their offer too.
Before I retired the company I worked for had to allow women to apply for jobs that had traditional been only held by men and some of the guys thought if they used offensive language in the presents of the ladies they would apply for different jobs but the company warned them that such stupid behavior would get them fired

working out syndicate groups?
Yeah, we've been through this before, problem is, in a perfect world, you would all sign a binding contract and there would be no problems.
BUT then reality steps in and you have problems:
'I signed a contract, I get X percent'
- 'But you didn't give me your money'
'Yes I did' -or- 'I stopped by your desk to pay you and you were not there'.....
- 'Then you should have come back later..'
'I didn't have time to, I figured you would come back to me later like you always do...'

Is it possible to remain anonymous in NJ through a trust or attorney?
Of course you're correct about what the technical requirements are. There are very few things the IRS hasn't already considered and come up with rules for. This is yet another reason that people with big money should consult professionals to get their detailed advice. Your options for helping somebody with housing would include cheap rent and hiring them as a caretaker. The value of housing provided to an employee may be taxable, but for parents who are retired the tax would probably be modest

Why can teenagers play the lotto?
I feel like this..if they can join the military at 18, go to war, die, drive, vote, get married, enter into a legally binding contract, get a job... then they should be able to buy a lottery ticket if they so desire. I had never even thought about 18 year olds playing but much to my surprise, many of them do and WIN! (one of my classes of older students enlightened me) I was also surprised by how many parents actually buy lottery tickets for their children as play things (scratch-offs). Around he

Help organizing a work pool and forming a contract
Travis,
This question has been asked before. I find that the answers tend to recommend very complicated legal structures. I look back at cases where lotto groups collapsed into legal suits after a win and in all cases, the groups had absolutely no paper trail or any hint of a contract or written agreement. Of course it is important to not fall into their trap but on the other hand, it is not necessary to spends hundreds of dollars on legal and notary fees.
On that note, here is what I do f

Help organizing a work pool and forming a contract
Ok.. thanks for the suggestions.. anything else? And about getting it notorized.. I was thinking of having a new contract for every drawing so I don't think that would work so well.
Someone has got to have a little something written up that they use at their workplace. I hope they would share.

Despite strong opposition, Indiana moves ahead with selling lottery
Indiana is considering a Wall Street investment firm to help it pull together a plan to lease the Hoosier Lottery, despite legislative skepticism that could kill the deal.
Gov. Mitch Daniels said Friday the administration is negotiating a contract with Morgan Stanley to test the market. A similar contract with Goldman Sachs Co. to market the Indiana Toll Road last year was worth about $20 million.
The Toll Road eventually was leased for 75 years for $3.8 billion, and the state has esti

Will Florida Join Powerball
I've lived in FL for over 12 years and I don't ever remember reading that we joined PB. I'd like to read the article to which you are referring. Jeb Bush announced he would never approved joining a multi-state game since it would hurt state revenues.
Okay: Here's something from the New York Times (the rest of the article is only avail for a fee)
