When a winning ticket gets destroyed
I'm making a copy of my next winning ticket and have the self-serve machine scan the copy. If the bar code shows it's not a winner, we'll know why Lotteries don't accept copies.

A funny thing happened on the way to cash my $40 winner from yesterday....I noticed I again had a lot of ones in my wallet so I loaded up the scratcher vending machine, got 5 $2 scratch-offs (only won $2 on one of those) and this $5 ticket, good for $60:

$75,000 California Lottery winner leaves with only $75
An honest mistake. Clerks know that $75,000 will never be paid over the counter! He may have thought the machine was malfunctioning since it allowed the ticket to be paid. Don t think there was any dishonesty here.

Are lotteries games of chance or intelligence?
I think it is luck. Even if you pick your own numbers there is no guarantee those particular balls will be blown up by the air machine. You are just buying a chance and someday you might get lucky. You have to resolve to keep a ticket (or 2 or 22) in the games you want to win.

Annoyed while waiting in the lottery line - Venting
The only place close to me selling Keno tickets uses two clerks with two lines, but only one machine and what you described happens often. If you really believe they gave your jackpot winning ticket to another customer, fill out a play slip next time.

dishonest store clerks
Forgot to mention also that in Tx when the clerk scans a winning ticket, the machine plays a little tune. So they don't have an opportunity to cheat .

dishonest store clerks
I haven't really had a problem with a store clerk trying to cheat me out of a lottery win. The place I usually stop at has a self service machine where you can buy both scratch off and draw game tickets. It has a ticket scanner and you can apply the winnings as credit toward the machine, which I do sometimes.

MUSL employee arrested in Hot Lotto jackpot mystery
What if he knew where and around what time the winning ticket would be produced by the lottery machine? What if this is one of the reasons they are not allowed to play? Food for thought...

The retailer such be as much in the dark about which tickets are winner as we are when we buy them. They shouldn't be able to tell the winner until they are complete scratch off run under the little machine check your ticket here.
