New Scratch-Off
The larger top prize is almost always at the expense of mid and low tier prizes. Is it really worth it to give up the more likely prizes just for the hope of a larger top prize? If that's the case, you might as well play the pick 5 or pick 6 draw games instead of the scratch-offs. It's difficult to decide how much of a weighting to give to games with multiple low value prizes when comparing them with games with higher value top prizes but fewer prize categories overall but that's the thing about

mega fixed
It's hard to reach a realistic conclusion when you're starting with faulty factual information. Over the past two years the MM jackpot has been higher than $100 million 11 times. 5 times the jackpot has been won before reaching $200 million. Of those 5 times, one was $196 million and the other 4 were $135 million or less. That's well short of always going to at least $200 million. In 6 of those 11 times the jackpot has been won at something over $200 million. 4 of those 6 were won at the firs

After $10M lottery win, Mass. woman plans 'exceptional Christmas'
imagine if 20 years ago someone won the Zimbabwean Lotto for $10 million and took an annuity? How would that be different than having taken the money up front and invested it? Inflation affects the money you have now as well as the money you earn in the future. Of course you can eliminate effects of Zimbabwe's economy by investing on other countries because Zimbabwe's economy is far too small to have much effect in other countries. If you live in a country with a major economy and that econ

Kansas man claims state's largest Powerball lottery jackpot one day after winning
Stacker47, I agree with your version. The priliminary claim is to validate and decide how to slice the moola (annuity verses cash). In PA its 6-8 weeks before the money hits the bank ( that includes the ten days it sits in your account to be audited by the bank) . In researching the states average time- 2 weeks has yet to be the factual. Minimum of 4 is what is said when I've inquired for different states. ITs true at the end of the day, its the claimers choice and no one elses ( except Uncle

Only 109,999 chances I won't win a million? - Here's my $20! - Gimme a raffle ticket!
Actually, there are 329,997 chances you won't be a millionaire. Overall, out of 330,000 tickets there will be a total of 309 winners, making the overall odds of not losing your $20 1 in 1078.4. Compare that to a $1 ticket with odds of 1 in 21,568 to win your money back. Right now TN lotto plus is advertising a jackpot of $3.9 million. They don't seem to post it in an obvious spot, but I'll assume it's an annuity, and call the cash value $2 million, or twice as much as the raffle. The odds of

In Cali...
I'm curious, California is flat broke. In fact, they're paying some of their debts with i.o.u's. If you're a jackpot winner in California, and opted for the annuity payments, are there any guarantees the state won't keep your money to cover its budget shortfalls?

$1000 a week for life? So what
So what.....hmmmm. An extra 4,000 a month would definitely change my life for the better. I have a decent paying job......I make over 26 dollars an hour and even if I work my day off every week at time and a half my take home pay is still less than $4,000 a month. And the lottery isn't going to take half of it....I think your confusing a thousand a week for life with the difference in taking a lump sum vs an annuity on the bigger games. It will put you in a higher tax bracket but so what....y

Lump Sum V.S 26 Year
Why would you do that? Why borrow when you can Bank on yourself ? Borrow from yourself for 6% interest, then you earn 6% interest on your money instead of the bank earning 6% on your money. Besides, when you look at the current administration, your future annutity payments might be taxed at 60% or more. Annuity is lose lose right now.
