Lottery winner hangs self 7 years after collecting win
The say the increase in money only places emphasis on what the person actually is. Money doesn't make you a winner, loser, smarter, dumber, useful or useless. You were already there - you just get to become more extravegent about it. Unhappy will be unhappy. Happy people will be happy. I keep refering to Jack Whitiker, because is a prime example of what no one should want to be.

$500 Million Jackpot!
Records are fun to see but as long as it is worth playing then I will play. I usually start buying tickets around the $100 million mark and increase purchases until it hits. I don't mind 150-200 million jackpots.Brad

Is powerball sandbagging the jackpot?
They did overstate last Saturday's jackpot. Their estimated CVO was $4 million higher than it would have actually been had the jackpot been won. Therefore, they actually predicted a $9 million increase in the CVO (estimating sales of about $30 million).

Powerball Jackpot Grows to $180 Million
I would have to say I like the 180 million dollar jackpot....but the increase from the previous drawing was sure dissapointing. If the jackpot reaches record levels it will be interesting to see the cap come into play. Powerball really did lower the percentage of sales to go into the jackpot? Didn't that pretty much defeat the purpose of changing the annuity structure?Brad

PB $83.1 million cash
Damn the cash option value didn't increase by even $10 million (close though, at $9.6 million)! The lotteries sold only $27,917,824 (not including PowerPlay) for last night's drawing, which is about $10 million less than they used to experience at the $148 million level (the few times it actually made it there under the old matrix). I guess less players are playing with the odds being what they are now.

Texas Lottery jackpot game tickets in sales decline
Citing plummeting revenues that indicate a jackpot fatigue in state lotteries throughout the nation, the chairman of the Texas Lottery Commission challenged the organization's staff to consider boosting Lotto Texas sales by making the game more creative. Why can't we do something creative for a change making it a $4 million jackpot and two Harley-Davidson motorcycles or a Corvette or one of those fancy trucks? said Chairman C. Tom Clowe Jr. Let's create some buzz. Let's give $4 million and

Is PB inferior to MM?
When calculating the expected value of the jackpot prize, the probability of a single or multiple winners must be taken into consideration. Those probabilities are affected by the odds and the sales for that particular draw.It is for that reason that the expected value rises slowly as the jackpot grows. That is, as the jackpot grows, sales also grow and increase the possibility of a multiple winner.I calculate the expected value of the lotteries I play and only play when the expected value is re

Gas prices... sigh
I've been buying less tickets lately because of the increase in gas prices and was wondering if anyone else is doing the same thing. It's annoying to have to take money from something I love to do but this gas is getting too expensive.

Lotto Texas - World's Worst Jackpot Game?
The Lotto Jackpot has been hit twice recently, paying $4 million. Hard to believe that the game was so difficult to win for such a long time and then, wham, 2 jackpot hits in a row.The Texas jackpot game was introduced in order to increase profits. The TLC estimated that 5 to 10 million tickets would be sold every draw. Unfortunately, only the poor and the stupid played a game they were not likely to win.Without admitting defeat, the TLC started looking around. They got a powerful state official

How high will Powerball get this run?
Powerball should tie their $25 million limit increase to the cash value option and not the annuity. That would enable them to still have their match 5 bonus pool.
