PA Super 7 Jackpot
Odds don't really mean squat to me. Someone always wins eventually. I already beat the odds for Big 4 three times (1 in 10,000) playing only $1 each time, and I know people who have played their whole life not even won boxed. I think the so-called odds are perfect for this game because they are nowhere near as bad as powerball. This keeps the jackpot higher and still winnable to only one player most likely. Cash 5 is fine, but the jackpots are generally always low. When it gets to $2-3 millio

10 N.J. co-workers will split $216M lottery jackpot
- The Big O I was referring to is not the person from Chubb, but THAT ONE who wants to put higher taxes on high incomes... meaning Take the money and run vs. an annuity that might be a much higher tax rate in a few yrs. - With all the hype about HDTV, I prepared for Feb. 17th (now June) by getting a HD antenna and USB tuner. When the man waved the ticket at the camera, I clicked Freeze Frame. The winning set was on line E. They were all QP, but the other numbers look good so guess what, I'm p

Powerball vs. Mega Millions...its a race!
Powerball has consistantly been ahead of Mega Millions this twin run so far in the advertised annuity jackpot. MM has been ahead on the cash option for a long time time now. The next drawing though the Mega Millions jackpot will be advertised as more. I mean look how close they are now they there is a $21 Million dollar different in the cash option. Those graduated annuities really helped out Powerball's numbers didn't they. Sales are hugely different as well. Last drawing sales for Mega Mill

Mega Millions lottery jackpot rolls to $120 million
I hear you. For me I will take the annuity and work with little annual amount and invest in this economy I don't want to take everything and invest it with some company that who knows when they are going to go downhill....I trust the lottery more on that. As for my family and friends(extended included)...I will give them all a portion of my winnings and wish them good luck in managing their money....If anybody becomes greedy NO will be the answer and asta la vista....I have already told them an

POLL: Worldwide Jackpots
I absolutely agree, particularly because Powerball hypes its smaller jackpot by time graduation of the annuity. Mega pays equal installments. The annuities are, I note, invested in government securities which may not be worth a dime in 30 years. With the higher odds, the Powerball jackpot has the lowest expectation value ever.

Early talks for a joint Powerball-British lottery game
I don't see such a game happening in this country. The U.S. and other countries have very different ideas about how to run lotteries. Some countries keep half of sales as their share for running the games and don't tax the winners where in the U.S. the states keeps half of sales for running the games and along with the Federal government tax the winners for 30% of his winnings. I can't see U.S. politicians allowing states to contribute to a jackpot where they might not be able to tax the winners

I can't help myself
81 year old winner I'll take the 30 year annuity. Unless she already has a very large estate, she can leave everything to her family without any concern about estate tax, that is, unless the laws change. She can also give away up to a million in her lifetime with paying gift tax. Still, I was surprised to see an 81 year old claiming a lottery prize. I guess I shouldn't say that, since I know people in their 80s who buy tickets all the time. This economy isn't just hurt

Strange way of announcing jackpot win
Last night the estimated Florida MegaMoney jackpot was $900,000. The game is parimutuel, so the jackpot is based on the number of tickets sold. It had rolled from $500,000 to $700,000 and then to $900,000. The winner has a choice of a lump sum or $45,000 a year for 20 years. One person hit last night right here in Naples and this is the press release. I just thought it was interesting, since that might be the cash value (before tax) I've never seen this before, so maybe it's an error. In Flo

A comment on the new Powerball Expectation Values.
For the same reason that you wouldn't use the annuity value. The only point of calculating an expectation value is to make the risk to reward an objective quantity. The expectation value is only as realistic as the numbers you use to calculate it, so it has to be based on what you'll actually get and not some imaginary number. For odds of 1 in 195 million the expectation value isn't 1 unless the net is $195 million. Unless perhaps you actually want to share the prize with the government. Of c

18.4 MILLION Michigan Classic Lotto 47 Jackpot!!
Actually the cash option for a 30 year annuity is running about 65-70%. Interest rates are just that low. This game has been rolling forever. I think this game only gets won twice or three times a year. But the cash option should be more than the 1 in 10 million odds. Expected value of the ticket should be above 1 so its time to play. Brad
