When will mega hit this time?
i dont think it will get over 200 mill. ....and as far as the 400 mill....i don't think it will get that high until MM does another matrix change. I actually don't think it will get over 200 mill again for another year. I think MM will probably be hit in January.
If MM doesn't get hit until January, it will probably be well over 300 million (annuity, of course) by then. Nothing else is especially big right now, so if it grows at a rate similar to what gave us the $390 million record, it cou

NY Lottery says it goofed: Mahopac winner got $31 million after taxes
Very few people take annual payments. Let's say someone really goofed (not on purpose) and added a zero. Wouldn't you be thrilled to win $10 million even if you thought it was going to be $100 million?
Another way to look at this deception (although it's really not, because you do have the option of taking the annuity) is that it helps boost the jackpot by attracting more players, so that's better for us - right? I mean, if only serious lottery players bought tickets, the jackpots wouldn

Proclaim big prizes when the actual cash value is a lot less.
Lotteries should be made to announce the cash value and not the long term annuity value.
Either That they should announce both in their advertising.

Some States Consider Leasing Their Lotteries
Milken may have been a financial genius and given a great deal of money to charity, but I'm sure that Hitler and many of the other despised people of history had their good points too. Milken was indicted on nearly 100 counts of insider trading, stock manipulation and related crimes. I think it's pretty clear that he was much more interested in his own interest and a fast buck than creating a long and successful business.
The annuities are guaranteed
Of course they are, but by whom?

ron paul
I think we need some kind of income tax, and I'm against the so-called Fair Tax but I do agree with Ron Paul that total tax reform isn't the answer. Getting the Federal Government to control its spending is.
One thing that is directly related to winning the lottery is estate tax. I never realized until dvdiva opened my eyes that, if I ever win and took the annuity, if I die my sister might have to pay estate tax on the entire gift, even if she doesn't have possession of it. Then I look

Is Greed Good ??
For the most par lottery officials don't care about anything posted here. About the only exception is the occasional participation of a PB official who strongly believes annuity is the better choice. The lottery's interests in public opinion and marketing can be answered much more effectively by other means, and they have no interest in anyone's systems. The odds are in their favor and they will always come out ahead in the long run.
If you think you'd have family problems by sharing a system

Book: Money For Nothing
By George, this is the smartest comment I have seen in the LP forms since I joined!
I have to say, it does seem some people here are finally getting smart to the fact that annuities are not the wisest move for anyone to do!
I say tie up your own money in any investment vehicle you like, but if you find yourself in a bind and have to liquidate that investment and pay a small penalty, so be it! At least your not being taken to the cleaners by the JG Wentworth people, because your money i

Retired auto worker, 2 children claim $314M Powerball lottery jackpot
well I dis-agree with the assumtion that if you don't like the RULES OF THE GAME , AND YOU DON'T AGREE WITH THE GAME ........don't play ;
the lottery are State run and state controled (in part) and the Government is You and me and all of its citizens .....so we do have a right to complain......and to make new laws concerning the lottery ...I always hated some new lotterys like Mega who pay out o

Retired auto worker, 2 children claim $314M Powerball lottery jackpot
I agree with both of you. Yes, interest rates are a bit higher, but I don't think that's the only reason. Isn't another reason the lump sum value is lower because PB changed the structure from even payments to gradual increases? That makes a big difference because the annuitant gets a much smaller check every year and, therefore, more money stays in the pot making it grow. So the final amount after 30 years is higher but the initial amount is considerably lower. IMHO this is cheating the pla

Indiana Lottery (Hoosier Lotto)
Just a little bump here to let everyone know that the Hoosier Lottery is still rolling!
Where are we know? I've lost track. I think we're approaching 90 draws and entering the 11th month without a winner?
$44 million 30 year annuity value?
