Why so much greed?
Seems that Powerball is trying to give the best to both groups. I believe lotteries are learning a hard lesson that leading people around with pie in the sky astronomical jackpots but not allowing a single bite in lower tier payouts gets lotteries fewer players in the long haul. Some have expressed that terms of payout could be a bit clearer, or perhaps the rub was because they assumed the new game would be conducted under the old rules. Old rules, new rules .... money is money to me so long as

OH Lot O' Play a failure?
I still don't understand how Ohio is calculating their annuitized jackpots. If they are simple based annuities there is no way a cash option could be worth 50% of the annuity. Especially if it is the same as Mega Millions. With todays rates the cash option needs to be around 60% of the annuity or they are misleading the public with those numbers. (Just like the last Super Lotto drawing they had. To advertise a $12mil jackpot they should of had more than $6mil cash.) Someone should check i

Is it Legal if...............
Is that ok to do?? No, I don't believe so. I wouldn't ask this of a family member, let alone a complete stranger.I am happy for those who have won jackpots. They invested their money and time and bought a lottery ticket. Fortune smiled on them, not me.Perhaps my turn will come. In the mean time, I don't feel I'm entitled in any way to someone else's good fortune. You want to win money? Study and play the lottery. And be patient.

Remaining anonymous if you win jackpot?
Chewie said: Think about this, when is the last time you heard about John Cartier, or Christopher Ewen? You probably don't even recognize their name. Both of them won major Powerball jackpots! Your ten minutes of fame only lasts ten minutes. Anything longer than that is entirely your fault. Chewie, as usual you're rightThe general public does have a very short attention span, but it's not your everyday John Blow that you have to worry about. Its con artists, crooks, kidnappers, church pastors,

Powerball lottery madness spreads to big media
That part about the animation is amazing. I never knew they simulated ball draws where RNG is used. But I suppose it fits right in. I'd bet Indiana ain't the only place it's done. The entire discussion of what's the largest jackpot is fairly mooshy. The winner who takes a lump for half of the largest jackpot in history didn't win that amount. He won half that. Whereas a winner who takes the largest annuity anyone's ever taken, supposing the amount is larger than the largest lump ever taken, i

Is a 400 million jackpot possible?
Hey ScubaSki,The difference in percentages are mainly due to the different terms of length of the Annuity that is bought with the cash pool. Megamillions has a 26 year annuity payout, while powerball has a 30 year annuity payout. So they can advertise powerball at a higher number (though lower percentage) then they would be able to a MM jackpot because the initial prize money has another four years to earn interest in the annuity. The lottery association does not actually have the 340 millio

Talk about jackpot fatigue
Used to be when jackpots got up around $200M, they would make the evening news even if tickets were sold out of state. I'm always surprised when I mention I'm plannig to buy some lottery tickets by the number of people who ask me what's the size of the jackpot. The last time I mention it, some people assumed I was talking about the PB and asked me to pick them up some tickets. I was talking about MM which is sold locally and they didn't know about it. There are plenty of people that still get

would you take cash or payments on the PB
I am not too sure about how taxes would work for that. Are you saying you would have to pay 35% of your income again after the 25% is withheld? As I said in another thread that is 60%! Say you won $100 million, and after taxes you had about $75 million. Would you then have to give up 35% of that the following April? ($26 million) Is this a one time payment for the taxes, or every year 35%? If so that is a crock of Can you explain in more detail how the taxes are charged, and how much? In my sta

Lottery gadfly not betting on getting top post
Some say she's a watchdog; others say she's a nuisanceDawn Nettles has a job interview Friday, but she figures the odds are against her. They're not going to hire me, the 54-year-old Garland woman said. They hate me with a passion. They refers to the Texas Lottery Commission and Gtech Corp., the company that operates the lottery for the state. The commission is seeking an executive director to replace Reagan Greer, who resigned in July after admitting he had signed off on advertising inflate

Hi Sirbrad, I see you are very new too. Isn't this cool. . . I have tons of books (too many) and need to pull out the old positive motivational stuff about now. I read Think and Grow Rich years ago and thought of it recently. Have you read The Magic of Believing ? That's an oldy but a goody too. Just bought Wayne Dyer's You'll see it When You Believe it ---pretty good too. Have you won any jackpots or near misses? Yes, wouldn't it be delish to have all your time be your own. . .TA
