Lotteries long for 'jackpot fever'
I don't think it is as simple as jackpot fatigue - everyone I know thinks $2 million is a huge amount of money, let alone $50 or $100 million. They have to consider the downturn began after they raised the odds and lengthened the annuity length so they could advertise higher jackpots without actually having more money in the pot. People catch on to things like that, people know the advertised amount is pretty much a con and the cash option is far lower and even lower after taxes. Yes, you ca

$3.5m CT ticket to expire
A Connecticut Classic Lotto jackpot winner won't get any money if the ticket is not claimed by this week's one-year anniversary. IIRC the last time a Connecticut Lotto jackpot winner forfeited the prize for this reason happened at least 10 years ago, in the annuity-only era. The Connecticut Lotto jackpot usually started at $1 million (same as now,) but there were several jackpots that started at $2 million, using the unclaimed jackpot. I don't know if Connecticut would do the same now. I w

Euro Millions at $130 Million cash?!?!
Does anyone know why/how there has been a rollover of approximately $96 million in Euro Millions? It was around $35 million last Friday. The highest rollover it had before this was approximately $46 million on 02/03/2006 when a jackpot of $176 million was not won. Now we all know that Euro Millions jackpot is all cash (and no tax on winnings). I don't know how much of the sales go towards the jackpot but if they are the same as MM (31.8%), then they would need sales of approximately $301 mil

Lucky For Life
If Lucky for Life was poisoned by me, as you appear to be saying, then I guess my boycott of the game successfully was spread to other LP members, who might in turn have told others not to play it. And, as far as greed was concerned, I wonder who made money BECAUSE Lucky for Life winners were forced to receive yearly payments instead of being offered, say, a $500,000 cash option. (The Pennsylvania Lottery itself didn't benefit by making the top prize annuity-only; in fact, I wonder how much le

Ohio Classic Lotto Numbers
MM winners who choose lump sum (regardless of where they bought their ticket) get their full share of the cash that would buy the annuity. CL winners won't. The overall odds of winning in MM are better than CL as well. It might be because it's three times a week, but it doesn't seem to be paying out well (no drawing so far has come even close to paying out $100,000).

Saturday's PB Win
Saturday's Powerball win in Arizona is the absolutely perfect Jackpot hit and congratulations to the lucky ticket holder. 15 Million Powerball jkpt (7M cash), is just what a person needs to retire, buy all the toys they desire, a big new home, (and why not a yellow Humvee every other year?) ... and spend the rest of their lives traveling to distant places around the globe. Sure, it's fun to occasionally chase the wild and crazy stratospheric rollover levels, but as I have chanted before ..

$254 million Powerball lottery ticket richest ever in Missouri
Wow! Congrats to the winners. I hope whoever bought the ticket doesn't have a weak heart. I just cannot imagine getting online and staring at the winning numbers. I hope some day I get to find out! Did any other articles indicate whether or not this was a QP? It usually is. Also, I'm not so sure the cash option is the best way to go, Double Down, but that's been an old debate on this board for a looooong time. I just don't like the graduated annuity because of my age. But just the first c

I went to PA to celebrate the end of Lucky for Life
Today was a very interesting day. First I stopped at the A P where I work. A woman bought a NY Raffle to Riches ticket. All such tickets are printed with CASH VALUE , which isn't necessary. Then I drove to the Port Jervis area. In New Jersey I played $5 of Pick-6 Lotto. In recent years, Pick-6 players didn't have to choose cash or annuity unless they won, but, apparently, New Jersey has gone back to requiring Pick-6 players to choose when playing. Next I went into Pennsylvania. After I got i

Contacting Professionals After You Hit A Multi-Million Dollar Prize!
You make a valid point here, Guru101. I like your comment. Everyone always advises winners to seek professional help. Many of us don't know a good lawyer, so we'd have to get a referral. My past experience with both financial planners and lawyers hasn't been that great and I've done much better making my own decisions. For some reason, I am then influenced by the idea that they know more than I do and then I lose all over again. That said, at this point if I won $20 million, I would have

Random Generation of Quickpicks
This question -- about where the Quick Pick numbers are generated -- comes up almost as often as the cash vs. annuity debate. I remember posting about this several times, so I went ahead and did a full search by broadening the date range to include all history. Sure enough, I located one such discussion way back in 2002 (I'm sure there are several since then): https://www.lotterypost.com/thread/64353
