One more annuity vs cash discussion
If you are business-minded and know how to or are experienced at taking healthy risks for gain, or have access to good professional advisors, take the lump sum. Ask Gates or Trump...
If you are consumer-oriented, take the annuity so that you can learn to live comfortably within your means and maybe stay out of trouble on an annual basis, and know that you can do so for years to come. Ask Jack Whittaker...

betting on numbers multiple times
I didn't 'get it' either, so don't feel bad, Mr. 6.
I know some folks play the same PB ticket twice - in theory if they win it, one of the tickets they will take the lump sum, and for the other ticket they will take the annuity.
I would like to be in the position to have to make that choice.

One more annuity vs cash discussion
Those are all excellent points. They get raised here and there, so it's nice to see the arguments laid out all together.
I agree with you, and I'll bet that Jackie Boy would not be in near the trouble he's in today -- singing the blues about all the crooks -- if he took the annuity!
There are absolutely plusses and minuses to each option, and those who look at it with a black white perspective are possibly overlooking several important factors.

POLL: Sharing jackpot with children
other - I don't have any children! I hope a parent would want to share the wealth, at least the $12,000/yr per person tax exempt gift. I think it would all depend on the prize won. I don't think parents have an obligation to automatically support their grown children, but if you love people I would hope you'd want to help make their lives a little more comfortable.
If someone in his 80s or 90s won, it would be nice if he trusted his children enough to let them claim the prize. Although he

New NY Lotto 59 in March-will it still be a ripoff?
The NY raffle will be a scratch game instead. Given it's the NY Lottery, I expect the million-dollar prizes to be annuity-only. Then again, if NY held a true raffle, the payout probably would be 40%.
Even though I'm not a numbers player, I like the idea of winning for matching the lump sum of the three/four digits.
As for Lotto Extra, I wonder what the four additional ways are. No US lottery game AFAIK has drawn two bonus balls.

What to do with all that moola?
I'd invest most of it in gold and foreign currencies (especially the euro) in anticipation of the inevitable collapse of the US dollar! Just one more reason why no winner should EVER choose annuity (dollars may be no more by the end of 26 years)!!

Of course, if I'm wrong and the US experiences deflation instead (which, under Bernacke, is less likely to happen than me winning Powerball or Mega Millions)...

Does your lottery listen to players?
As you all know I like to complain about certain lottery practices, especially in my home state. I am not trying to upset other LP members, but, giving something for them to think about before buying tickets.
I don't think my lottery listens to me or any of its customers, or at least it doesn't seem so in recent years. It doesn't do surveys, or hold periodic meetings around the state. It also doesn't seem to lobby for changes that would make it more competitive with other states (our longtime

Lucky For Life
Another thing is for certain, I would not be complaining about a $100,000 a year for life annuity. Which is more like $75,000, and still nothing to complain about. However I do have a slight problem buying one scratch off for $10.00, especially considering how much I already lost on them. Nonetheless I would be ecstatic to win Lifetime Riches. I suppose $100,000 a year for life is unlucky riches?
Heck even a 70 year old could enjoy many years of that. Thanks also Gamegrl, I also always enjoy

Ohio Lottery to ditch Lot 'O Play game over lack of interest
This is a great example of what I (and others) are referring to in this thread.
I have no problem with any points you're making about the name, the annuity issue in Ohio, or the payments.
However, your insistance on bringing up the NY Lottery in every thread, regardless of its relevance to the NY Lottery is called thread hijacking, and I have asked you to stop doing that dozens of times. I would really love to see you stick to the topic a time or two, it would be a real novelty. You obvi

To my fellow LP members
I have to agree with Todd. I see nothing wrong with CASH Only expressing his points of view, but we should all try to maintain the respect and decency afforded by proper board etiquette. It's just not nice to constantly make irrelevant posts about annuities and the NY lottery in threads about other matters. It disrupts the continuity and development of ideas about the subject matters at hand.
As fja suggested, I don't think anyone would object if CASH Only were to create and update an ongoing
