But jim695, do you know what's so disheartening to me? It's the fact the owner (chief bottle washer) of this community has decided to tell CashOnly not to mention anything about what he has been saying all this time ever again, if he wishes to be taken seriously ever again! Please correct me if I'm wrong. I thought our chief bottle washer was supposed to be unbiased? And if so, from what I just read, that seems not to be the case at the present moment! Maybe our chi

Yes, I know there are several different kinds of annuities and Clark Howard's reference was about those a person purchases, not what the lottery buys. Annuity payments by lotteries are considered stable and guaranteed by many..... but payments from pension plans workers paid into were once considered stable and guaranteed also, but are now either disappearing or being negotiated downward. For some of us at least the carrot on a stick which annuities represent is not appealing whatsoever,

Lucky For Life
Good investment. Maybe someone could help me out here, but it seems like the occurences of people getting lucky for life-i.e. hitting the jackpot, is not all that often compared to other games. I have ot admit, I very rarely, if ever play Lucky for Life, but the New Mix and match with better (1 in 4 vs. 1 in 12) odds is promissing. And with a lump some present worth Jackpot; aalthough an annuity wouldn't bother me. Best improvement in this regard to lucky for life, should have been a

To my fellow LP members
I'm sorry that I sound obsessive in my posts when it comes to certain issues. But I feel somebody has to complain about annuity-only lottery games (be it lifetime or over x number of years,) and, for those like myself who live or visit NY state, the terrible payout percentage in NY Lotto. Lottery players like myself should push lotteries to offer lump-sum payouts or cash options in ALL games, and likewise a minimum 50% payout for all betting options. I'm convinced that the lack of a cash o

Some people think $20 is too much for lottery ticket
Illinois currently has 5 different ten dollar cards with million dollar prizes and one $20 card with a $2 million prize. The tens suck, but believe it or not, the 20's actually aren't that bad. I've gotten 2 $400's, a $200, and about 6 $100's and many $50's on it. They really fly off the shelves too. Obviously, not many people around Chicago have an issue with the price of the 20 card. Sometimes when I want one, they're sold out in less than a day. 60 card packs of them. And the $2 mi

Fresh Questions Anybody?
They have to be repeated at one time or another, because how many different questions can there really be? I voted for the anonymity question, since that's the one I've seen since I first joined, but I suppose all of them have been repeated several times over the past year. The most common debate seems to be Annuity vs Cash. The most common poll seems to be what would you do if you won in one form or another or why do you play? etc. As far as favorite poster goes, I never even considered

Fresh Questions Anybody?
mylollipop I voted for Other... I think the top two topics here are Annuity vs Cash Option and then Quick Picks vs selecting your own numbers. Since you're looking for fresh topis for polls and questions, maybe something on luck, are some people just luckier, how much is luck a factor or the factor, etc....

Man who stole winning lottery ticket gets 5 years
Sounds right to me. I figured the article must have gotten that figure wrong. Too bad you didn't invest it in a tax deferred annuity for a year or 2. You probably wouldn't have gotten 5% for such a short term investment, but you also wouldn't be paying taxes on the interest until you get everything settled. There's nothing wrong with letting the money sit in a bank account either. I would be thrilled making almost $20K a year in interest. Good luck to you and I hope you help people who are

Friends Dad hit NH megabucks

NY Lottery/Eliot Spitzer
I've been telling you for some time that the NY Lottery (not counting its video lottery) is one of the worst in the country, because of the terrible payout in NY Lotto, and its numerous annuity-only scratch games. Will Eliot Spitzer, a Democrat after 12 years of Republican rule, appoint a lottery director who will truly listen to lottery players like me, rather than being a puppet? Yes, I voted for Spitzer. He demolished John Faso.
