New PA Game - Mix And Match
Wrong again CashOnly, 19. Would have preferred 10 or 11 though. If it is $2.00 again that will suck. Another game that I will not be playing unless it rolls to a million or more. The odds are still pretty bad, and the jackpot prize is too. People will be fooled by the seemingly low number selection. I like the idea, but I do not like the jackpot, or the price. I would like to know who in PA is deciding this games, because I sure as hell never get a vote. They always claim the games are what

Tip For Any System Used
The previous drawings that didn't produce any winners also have to be counted when figuring out how many tickets are sold to produce a winner. The 10/17 winner was the result of sales of about 107 million tickets, give or take. If the annuity prize was 55 million the cash prize was about 32 million. At 30 cents from each ticket that would take sales of about 107 million tickets. For the 9/15 drawing there would have been total ticket sales of about 315 million tickets, or enough to cover n

Probability of a Rollover in Powerball.
The Powerball jackpot has rolled over. The cash value of the jackpot is $38.8M. The advertised annuity value is $83.0M. Eighth draws average 18.4M in sales. If the number of tickets that sell in the next drawing is average then the randomized probability of various numbers of winners will be as follows: 088.16% 111.11% 20.70% 30.03% The mixed linear/exponential model I use to suggest the probability of long term behavior of the Powerball, exclusive of reserve

Kansas Powerball lottery winner claims jackpot anonymously
I remember when that happened, and the only thing I remember thinking was that I hope NC chooses Mega Millions instead of Powerball - didn't happen of course. The only thing the change did, I think, is lessen the chance (to about zero) that anyone would ever take the annuity option. The amount you get per year, in the first few years, seems so out of proportion with the total amount won, I can't see anyone taking it. It's like having a father, doling out an allowance again, Son, when you get

A Lottery Post Seminar Weekend?
Coin Toss, don't forget to add: Outside there was a violent protest. On one side of the street mounted policemen had to control the mob with picket signs reading ANNUAL PAYMENTS - TAKE THE ANNUITY On the other side, trying to get through the crowded street and the blockades were people loudly chanting clapping CASH, CASH, CASH, CASH

Probability of a MegaMillions rollover.
Prob988...thanks for the explanation of how the modeling function calculates jackpots. Still not sure if I totally understand, but then that's why you are a math genuis!! Was wondering, how far back do you go to get the average drawing sales? Is it a rolling year or is it when California joined and they changed the jackpot minimum level? On Wednesday and Saturday mornings after checking the numbers and realizing I don't need to choose between lump sum and annuity, my next step is to loo

Kansas Powerball lottery winner claims jackpot anonymously
Well, it isn't really baloney, if you want $15 million, you take the annuity, you'll get 15 million. Everyone has to pay taxes, me, you and the winner - so that's no news flash. As far as 'he should have received x or y' well, that's not how lump sums are calculated. Lump sums are based upon interest rates. When interest rates are higher, lump sums go down. When interest rates are lower, lump sums go up. Rates have been rising steadily over the past year, so lump sum payments are going

a poll about annuities and lump sum
KY Floyd...as stated in your response, the best course of action is to get with people that have expertise in money matters, preferably those that are experienced in managing large sums of money. Then you should be able to have all your options laid out in front of you and make your decision accordingly. My feeling is that is much better to make an informed decision reviewing all of your options then say no matter the situation one should take the cash or the annuity. Regarding your comment

a poll about annuities and lump sum
I'm certainly not saying that taking the annuity is always a bad idea, but even if it gives you a little more average annual spending power, it also limits your options. If I ever have to make that decision I'll definitely be spending agood bit of time with people with far more expertise in these matters than what I have. FWIW, that's one of the reasons I figure that the people who go running to lottery headquarters to claim their prize a couple of days after winning are more likely to have pro
