questions on pools & past experiences
I don't see much need to address the specific problem of a member dying. It's a given that dying means you're no longer part of the pool. If the pool wants to admit a former member's spouse, that's no different than adding any other new member.
As far as somebody dying while in possession of a winning ticket, I'd lump that in with the plan for all tickets purchased by the pool. Once the pool buys tickets, the tickets need to go somewhere safe, and the pool will need to figure out where. Havin

Mega Jackpot Boredom
That's right. A $200M jackpot used to be an event. We would make it a weekend trip to the Arizona border to buy tickets. Not anymore. But, who knows, if the PB jackpot reaches $400M maybe I'll be tempted to go on that trip, and join the fun.

Ohio's 0-2-3
Your logic is flawed. You can not assume that previous number results will impact future drawings. Think of it this way, if you take a quarter and flip it ten times and it lands on tails all ten times, what are the odds that it will land on tails on the next flip? Still 50/50 right? So therefore, the odds of getting your straight are exactly the same as if it appeared on yesterday's draw.

Futility
I think i see what you mean. For such a large JP, there must be more than calculations, and speculations, but rather, a gut feeling, because, only such inner traits can be the answer, on such a large scale event....I see.......lol

winning a few thousand, what do you do?
Since I'm already retired and my pension plus social security is not enough to meet my normal annual needs, I typically make a few partial withdrawals from my IRAs each year in whatever amount is necessary to meet normal living expenses. In the event of a win of a few thousand dollars, I'd spend it on routine living, but in so doing I'd simply withdraw that much less from my IRA that year.

Canadian Lotto 649 Jackpot Amounts!
Considering how strong the Canadian Dollar is right now it's a great prize for a 6/49 game. Hopefully a winner will be not from Quebec or Ontario and the rest of Canada can get a piece. I've seen them push the prize upto 30 million for the bonus rounds but not past it. I think it will either be 30 then 4 million or 30 then 35 in the unlikely event of it rolling.

What are the odds?
I have it occuring in 54 out of the last 4600+ draws. So I'd say the odds are somewhere around 1 in 90 or 1 in 100 for 5 times in the last 6 draws. Another rare event embedded in those numbers: 3 numbers were from 4 draws back and 3 from 5 draws back...

A Model for What to do with the Jackpot You just Won
I for one will worry about how to handle a multi-million dollars lottery jackpot after I win one. Unless I get lucky or come up with a better system for picking my numbers, it's unlikely such an event will ever effect me.
