Iowa Lottery upgrading retailer systems
Iowa Lottery officials are ready to roll out a new computer system in April at 2,400 retail sites in hopes that it will boost sales of popular games such as Powerball and Mega Millions and reduce crime.
The first new system in a decade will offer Iowa Lottery customers the promise of speedier service and a reduced chance of being cheated out of a jackpot by unscrupulous retail clerks, state officials said.
For die-hard lottery players, and thousands of Iowans fall into this category, the b

Federal online gambling legislation clears big hurdle
Maybe there are some teeth in the push for legalization and sensible federal regulation of the Internet gambling industry after all.
Sponsored by Rep. Barney Frank (D-Mass.) chairman of the House Financial Services Committee HR 2267 is a bill designed to establish federal oversight of an online gambling industry that currently resides in murky legal waters for U.S. players.
It passed overwhelmingly 41-22 via committee vote last week, advancing the legislation to the House floor, where it h

Lottery winner lost money after investing funds
One cant lose that which they do not place up for risk
I guess you've never heard of inflation. Assuming you didn't lose money to a fire or theft, over the past 20 year you still would have lost about 3% every year. That means that every dollar you safely saved by not investing 20 years ago would be worth about 55% of what it was when you stuck it in your mattress, and you'd have about a zero chance that it would ever recover. For those who think that investing their money in a bank is safe

Dual multi-state lottery sales may keep jackpots lower
Ok, while I am excited that my state, Kentucky, is ready to roll out Mega Millions along side Powerball, I am still having to wrestle with the ardouous question about identity security.
Knowing that games are subject to individual states agreeing to a certain set of rules, some states have diffrerent and conflicting rules regarding Winner Identity security.
Some states allow winners to shield themselves, out of regard for their personal safety, and identity control.
Other states feel th

Lottery winner picks up check, then gets arrested
$4.4M lotto winner goes straight to jail
It was a good news, bad news day for Barry Shell.
The good news: he won more than $4 million. The bad news: he ended up in jail.

I went to the store and checked my ticket on the self-serve ticket checker, Shell was quoted as saying in a news release from the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation.

Lottery officials raided several mini marts Tuesday in Fresno, California.
Owners and clerks were taken away in handcuffs after undercover investigators say the suspects cheated would-be customers by lying about winning tickets.
Late last year officers posing as consumers showed up at many local mini marts to test their honesty. More than a dozen store owners and employees failed. Today, authorities caught up with them at the busi
