The reason for this poll is to continue the never-ending debate about cash and annuity. Do you ever get tired of the debate or do you truely have no life?
I have a job. It's at an A P supermarket. Yes, we sell lottery tickets, and I like to tell customers that NY Lotto is a ripoff, and certain scratch games are verboten.

Probability of a Rollover in Powerball.
The Powerball jackpot has rolled. The cash value is $39M. The advertised annuity jackpot is $86M. Average sales for 8th drawings in a run are 17.1M. If this is how many tickets are sold, the probability of various numbers of winners is as follows:
088.96%
110.41%
20.61%
30.02%
The mixed linear/exponential modelling function for Powerball jackpot evolution suggests, ignoring caps and reserves the following model evolution for the jackpot and probabilities for rollovers:

Powerball for 25 cents...
I think a multi-state lottery with .25 tickets and a cash-only, as advertised jackpot of 1/8th 'normal' (annuity deceptions) would probably sell ten times as many tickets as the 1 buck tickets with deceptive trade practices.
Just an opinion.

Does anyone know a website that reports cash values?
Hi, Prob88!
Are you talking about current or previous jackpots? Maybe Todd or someone else here can answer this, but are most state lotteries pari-mutuel like Florida? If so the cash value is based on the amount of tickets sold so they don't tell you the cash value until after the drawing. The cash value for MegaMoney and Lotto never appear on the Florida website until someone claims the jackpot and there is a press release. Then you can figure out the payout which is usually 55-60%. I have an idea. You spend the dollar, I'll take the annual payments of $50,000 a year (assuming it's for 20 years.) I'll be happy to pay you for the ticket!
Congrats to these people. They certainly deserved to win. If you were going to pick someone, a person who just came back from Iraq is high on my list!

Games People Play
PA-Boycott Unlucky for Life (no cash option)
VA-Boycott Lose for Life (while VA does have a cash option, it's only 520k when it should be at least 750k)
NY-Rotto is the biggest ripoff of any US lottery game (payout only 38%-40%)
FL-No red flags. But there are yellow flags if you hit Florida Lotto or Mega Money-the 60-day cash/annuity clock starts with the DRAWING. Claim after that and you're stuck with annual payments.

Ohio lottery winner to share winnings
you know for a super big pot i wouldnt care if i took annuity or not. i mean say its $10 mill a year for 25 years?
if you blow your 1st years 10 mill u know you had better learn to manage money on year 2.
you still 24 years to go to learn., if oyu take lump sum and blow it, thats it its gone!
i think if i got 10 mill anuity id still have a few mill left in bank at end of year.

Probability of a MegaMillions rollover.
The MM has rolled. The new cash jackpot is $52.6. The advertised annuity jackpot is $94M. If we treat this drawing as an 9th round roll, in order to accomidate the fact that it is running ahead of average, and expect its sales to match the 9th round average of 26.4M, the probability of various numbers of winners is as follows:
086.05%
112.93%
20.97%
30.05%
The long range model suggests the following jackpot evolution:
$619,316,744.61$347,192,72045.97%0.47%
$541,86
