Someone hit mega - needs a fix
The MegaMillions matrix will change to 5/63 + ? when Calif starts selling tickets, according to some folks who have a good record for knowing what they are talking about.I think 1 in 170,000,000 will probably hurt the game more than it will help, but then most lottery profits come from players who are basically ignorant when it comes to odds, etc. No doubt many will keep spending their money and attribute their losses to bad luck.I have a difficult time understand why so many people want huge j

Georgia Lottery mistake gives players extra chance to win
Quote: Originally posted by JimmySand9 on February 17, 2005Really? So if I win the losing tickets can be deducted from the amount withheld? No, but you can offset your winnings on taxes with your losing tickets. For example, I won $1000.00 on a scratch off game last year, but since I spend about $60.00 per week on tickets, I was able to write off $1000.00 in losses, and thus, not pay any taxes on the winnings. Incedentally, it looks like Ga. may have had that extra drawing this past Fri. night.

Idaho man, 22, wins Powerball lottery jackpot
Quote: Originally posted by Blalron on February 25, 2005 It's nice to see younger people win since it's usually someone whose middle aged that hits the Jackpot. Not saying older people don't deserve it either, but if you're in your 20s you have a lot longer to live and enjoy your new wealth. Now it's time for Oregon to win! It's been so long since someone from Oregon has won Powerball.Don't be too sad. It may have been a while since OR has won Powerball, but at least you have one of the better in

Poll re: Your state lottery's response
Quote: Originally posted by hypersoniq on February 20, 2005 PA has about a 50/50 track record with me... mostly because they won't respond to my question about why they don't add Hot Lotto to the PA lineup... but when I asked questions about trusts to claim jackpots they responded quickly. Why PA won't add Hot Lotto? Well, I think it's because it's too small a game for too big a state. I think Iowa may even be too big for HL. Two, it's played exactly the same as Powerball, and is played on the ex

Mega Millions lottery jackpot leaps to $96 million
Don't get me wrong, I like the excitement of the 100+ million jackpots, it just means more work for me. As soon as it hits 100, everybody in my office starts running to me with money in their hands begging me to run a special pool (in addition to the regular one we play all the time). I use to just add them to the regualar pool but my regulars got tired of everyone jumping on the bandwagon and cutting into their cut of the jackpot if we won - so now I have to start up a separate pool when the

If you won a lottery jackpot..........
Quote: Originally posted by weshar75 on February 18, 2005In oregon you can not form a trust to collect winnings you have to be an actual person with winning ticket in hand to collect. But I would not do the press conference or t.v. interviews that the lottery and local news want. The only thing I would want them to know is the place were the ticket is sold and name of winner which is required by state law. Is this true? In some places, such as Washington D.C. (December 11, 1999), New Hampshir

There is a big difference between winning $315 million and a couple of million.there is a big difference in people period....Jack is the only Multi-million dollar lottery winner that you here about

cash vs. annuity
So... PB and Mega Millions (am I the only one who still calls it The Big Game?) give you a choice, and some games make you take cash, and some make you take an annuity. Is there a good web site that lists which games have which kind of prize? This seems like the kind of info that should be on a list of jackpots, since it's not really fair to compare a cash jackpot with an annuity jackpot. And I'd definitely claim my prize as cash. After I have the cash I'd probably BUY an annuity, but only with a

If you won a lottery jackpot..........
My understanding in Wisconsin is that you have no choice. The lottery is a public function. The winners are public knowledge. ANyone can find out who won by making an inquiry. Winning lottery jackpots is something the state govts run, and therefore must be open public knowledge. This is why so many immediately have to change their telephone numbers and even move their residences. The first thing that happens is you get bombarded with mail and phone calls from every Tom, Dick and Harry that want

Delaware legislation eliminates computerized lottery drawings
We'll see. I don't mean to be a pessimist but this topic has been off and on in Delaware since Lotto went to randomizers sometime in the mid to late 90s. I do know people are happy to see the old Lotto go. Marylands Lotto needs to go for the same reason. Low play = slow jackpots. Instant games seem to be hot these days around here becasue of high payouts. Delaware Park slots are hot right now too. Slots probably hurt all lottery games in this state.
