Euro Millions Lottery Sparks Buying Frenzy With $224 Million Top Prize
For MegaMillions and Powerball, both annuity and cash value are advertised - and promoted. The human eye only see's what it wants to see.
There is a simple solution to your worrying about not being paid any winnings from an online service. Don't buy from them. Walk away. No chains, no pressure. Hummm - no winnings either.
Income is income! The IRS calls it income tax because they tax your income. Why would you think you could increase your income in America, regardless how, and n

Is any State Run Lottery Honest?
Yes, and I've read that many other states continue to sell scratch tickets after all prize money has been paid, but I'm not sure if they are only talking about the big prizes. If there are no smallerprizes to be won, then that's total fraud and the tickets should be pulled immediately once that is determined.
I agree totally that advertising jackpots which are, in reality, 50% of what a winner will get BEFORE taxes is misleadingbut most people now realize what a cash value is versus an annuit

Fate, Destiny, Karma or...
Boy does this ever hurt!According to the Hoosier Lottery website the Hoosier Lottery has been won for the second consecutive time. After rolling over for more than 5 months it has been hit consecutively. First a family from Logansport won the $25.5 million jackpot. Then in the very next drawing someone won a $1 million jackpot. That someone (listed by name on the Hoosier Lottery website) is from my hometown in Northwest Indiana and purchased his ticket at a convenience store just down the road

Ohio woman decides to drop appeal over lottery tax
If they have the same concept as New Jersey, it doesn't matter what the state where you win does about taxes. You win in Powerball, say in Pennsyvania, and live in New Jersey, you are screwed. If you are taking annuity, the state of New Jersey will tax you every single year you receive a check from the state of Pennsyvania. (If you win in NYC, on any lotto, it is even worse. New York State tax, New York City Tax, and New Jersey state tax.) You only get free lottery winnings in New Jersey if

Ohio woman decides to drop appeal over lottery tax
justxploring wrote:<< Maybe I'm misunderstanding your comments, but I'm pretty sure that taxes are based on where you win the money, not where you live. In other words, I live in FL where we have no state income tax. Still, if I drove to GA to buy a MM ticket and won, I'd owe Federal tax and then GA State tax. >>That's almost right. Depending on the applicable laws income may be taxable based on the where the income is generated, and it's definitely taxable based on where you live.

Record $150 million Euro Millions lottery drawing Friday
How about a USA Lottery. . Every state would be able to participate and instead of the proceeds going to education, the proceeds will be for natural disasters in the USA. Katrina and Wilma victims certainly could use any kind of boost. Imagine loosing everything! Drawings would be on Monday so as not to interfere with the PB or MM Drawings which are held on WS and TF respectively. Base amount of jackpot would be $25,000,000.00. The minimum amount it would go up per week would be $15,000,000.

Lottery millionaire Bud Post dies
This is one case where taking a 20 or 30 year annuity might help someone control his spending and be more responsible. I can't believe someone with all those children wouldn't have the sense to form a trust. There was definitely something emotionally wrong with this man. I wonder if he suffered from some kind of PTSD since he served in Korea. The article didn't get specific about his tour of duty.He obviously had troubles before he ever won and took them to his grave which is sad. Did he die o

Powerball lottery sales, starting this morning, going smoothly
@ryanm:I'm not so sure you are correct when you say they would be out of business. Powerball has a minimum annuity jackpot of $15 million. At a cash value of less than 50% that's still $7 million. Even if you paid the maximum amount of Federal withholding (35%) and a state tax of 5% (Indiana's is 3.4%) that is a total of 40% or $2.8 million leaving a balance of $4.2 million. And they are still generating revenue for the states at that. If I remember correctly 29 cents of every sales dollar go

Breakfast buddies file suit over lottery ticket
Okay folks.. try this one. You can get by, but you can never get away. The problem with group plays rests with the the leader of the group. When I say leader, I mean one with the moral turpitude to do the right thing and that includes being fair. All lotteries have the ability to determine when, where, and what time an online ticket is purchased. This also confirms why there really is no perfect crime, because you don't know what detail is missing that will get you caught. As for purchasing t

I don't much like the scratchers.
I dont normally play scratch offs. I like the Nightly Michigan Keno Game instead. The odds are better than for scratch tickets and the prizes are better. Instead of buying a $5 scratch ticket you can buy five keno tickets with the same numbers and if you do win you get five times the prize! I had not won $100 on a scratch ticket since the 80's when I decided the Keno here is better. Sure enough! I won $25 and since I had 5 tickets with the same numbers I got $125! If you buy a $5 scratch tic
