Mega Millions Jackpot Increases To $13 Millions From $12 Millions On November 06, 2012.
And who is to say that $12 million or $13 million is NOT life-changing? Mega Millions and Powerball do not need to compete now that they are under the same umbrella. Players who seek the thrill of higher jackpots that climb faster can play Powerball, and those who are content with lower but still life-changing multi-million dollar jackpots can play Mega Millions... and many people will play both.

Mega Millions Jackpot Increases To $13 Millions From $12 Millions On November 06, 2012.
Powerball jackpots move too fast to $100 millions. Powerball offers life changing jackpots starting with $40 millions, winning a $40 millions jackpot is life changing. Players are spending the money on powerball, they are leaving nothing to play mega millions.

Mega Millions Jackpot Increases To $13 Millions From $12 Millions On November 06, 2012.
Powerball can do that for $2 with a $40 Millions starting jackpot. Mega Millions jackpots are not keeping up with inflation. Mega Millions starting jackpots need to be $40M like Powerball or higher in order to bring a higher playership.

Quaker Oats workers claim $241 million Powerball jackpot
I saw parts of their interviews on CBS and many of them said they hadn't slept or thought about anything else since learning they won even though their share of the winnings was only $6M. I've seen interviews of single winners of $10M jackpots that weren't nearly as excited. I guess it's the size of the jackpots and not the share of the jackpot that people get excited about.

How many people are not sure how much they spend on the lottery?
The first page of jackpots contains a statistics block stating what the highest and lowest jackpots were. No need to go through pages of data to find out.

Why Play Pwerball or Mega-Millions ?? Play you're States games !!
money is like a demovracy, and it goes where voters want to spend it. huge jackpots pull the crowds, / $$$ big jackpots pull the money and thats the way it is.

Anyone else find the jump in MM j/p surprising?
The last 2 jackpots were in the red? The lottery actually LOST money on those 2 jackpots? So what level does the jackpot have to reach for them to be in the black? Will tomorrow's draw - at 80M$ be black or red?

Stack47, you forgot to note that since neither the Mega Millions or Powerball jackpots have doubled at any point in the past five years or more, neither game ever sells enough tickets to fully fund their opening jackpots. Therefore, the opening jackpot is considered a loss leader, or in the case of Powerball, the first three or four draws are loss leaders, since the officials obviously don't expect the opening jackpot to be won often.

Powerball Vs Mega Millions
It will be interesting to see how fast the Mega Millions jackpot increases on this run, since historically, sales have increased on runs following $300+ million jackpots, not to mention record jackpots.
