Lotto Syndicates
There have been several examples where a syndicate won a jackpot. It seems to happen almost every month. I join as many syndicates and pools as I can.
Based on your response though, I think you differentiate between syndicates and pools. I consider them the same thing.
Maybe you define syndicates as commercial pools. That is, pools that directly profit from each member that joins. I definitely recommend against joining commercial pools. A lottery pool is so easy to set up, there is no need

Lotto Syndicates
I am at present, running a lottery club at my work. There are 10 of us and it costs $4/payday. With that money, I buy a mix of Powerball and Lotto tickets to cover all 4 drawings(Wed. and Sat.) that take place between paydays. We haven't won any big jackpots yet, I think the most we've won is $52. When we win small amounts, we just buy extra tickets.
When Louisiana was offering the $10 Millionaire Raffle ticket, we just happened to win $10 on a batch of tickets, so I polled the members on

New Jersey C5: 12/27 thru 12/31
12/1-12/27 there were 12 days with 0 5/5 wins, so this just about to breaks even (however there was a consecutive 7 5/5 wins between 12/12 and 12/18)
by no means this game payout is extravagant :) but odds are fairly decent, had some luck with in the past with a 3/3.
still waiting for New York Take-5 to post results (the 39 number pool gives even better odds)
Good Luck and Happy Holidays Jonnie!

Indiana Powerball lottery winners likely to remain anonymous
I don't blame them. Although it's nice to read the stories, I'd want to remain anonymous too. Florida insists that the names of all winners must be public information, but I wonder if a good lawyer could find a loophole. Even when claimed as a Trust or LLC, the names of the individuals are listed in the press releases. I'd hate my name to be announced in the newspaper. However, if I ever win millions, I guess I'll learn to suffer the consequences!
Regarding a pool, I think they're fine, but I

Piqua lottery winners sued by co-workers
Hey Quick Draw Mc Graw,
1) Have you ever thought to sit down and think before opening mouth?
2) I said Agreements are to be Mandatory (and of course in writing) if you wish to be apart of that Pool! Any agreement better be in writing, but any layman would automatically think it would be if so many people are to sign it after paying their money!
I think the kettle calling the pot black is the one who really needs the de-caf before shooting off the mouth uncontrollable!

Piqua lottery winners sued by co-workers
I'm with you TSC,
I sometimes think that if I joined a pool with naturally Lucky people, I'd be okay, but I have never done it. Now I'm glad I didn't. This lawsuit is enough proof for me. There will be enough issues with family and friends that will call out of the cracks. The one sister I speak to, doesn't believe in the lottery even though she knows I play religiously and my few friends don't know I play. I still never say that I will help family and friends, so if I didn WHEN I win, it

Countdown to Powerball in Florida
The fortune cookie PB a couple of years ago resulted in (off the top of my head) 111 or 121 2nd place winners, or which perhaps 15 or 20% had the powerplay option. MUSL could have split the actual amount in the prize pool among all of the winners, but they chose to honor the fixed value.
My understanding of both the PowerBall and MegaMillions games is that states are responsible for all prizes except the jackpot of which each participating state contribute 32% of their sale receipts. MUSL is

$207M Mega Millions lottery winners happy, but waiting
Mmmmm. Wasn't it a situation similar to this one that caused a lawsuit in CA? Someone who usually played in a MM pool didn't play when the group won but they thought they were entitled to some of the money so they sued and held up payment of the winnings. Don't remember what the outcome was. I hope this group doesn't have this problem. I like lottery pools but they have to be more structured than this one. I'll be glad when it's my pool's turn to win. We've been playing for a few years and haven

Countdown to Powerball in Florida
The lotteries always have the ability to protect their own interests. Normally, only the jackpot is paid as a parimutuel prize (with CA being the exception, due to state law), and the vast majority of the time a 5+0 win will get you the fixed prize. OTOH, on those rare occasions where there are an unusually high number of winners, the lottery has the option to pay prizes as parimutuel prizes. AKAIK, that has never happened with PB or MM, and it probably hasn't happened with any game with odds th
