Probability of a Rollover in Powerball.
The model I've proposed above for the probability of exceeding Jack's jackpot is obviously unsatifying since it pretends that 6 linearly increasing jackpots would occur, whereas it is more likely that some kind of lotto fever will click in and result in non-linearity.Of course the difficulty is that we are in new territory with the new Powerball odds, so we cannot really look at the past to model prospective futures. However I did think of a model that is slightly more satisfying. Another New York Concept
Not much of a travel actually. I work about four blocks from the NY/NJ border. Lotto sales are every where I turn. Have to pass several to go to lunch. Many times I buy one QP for multiple draws.Cheapo? NY Lotto is sitting at $9M annuity this very second. What should I spend on a lotto? $1.00? $2.00? $5.00? $10.00? $20.00? I would imagine it depends on the number of tickets it takes to win the lotto. Humm, yeah, only one ticket required. Buying more than one would make the rest an investment to

PA Lottery to start Powerball ticket promotion
Greg,I don't agree. There are millions of people out there who buy Powerball tickets with Power Play regularly. For those people, getting an extra ticket (with Power Play no less) is great. The Pennsylvania Lottery is giving people a bonus worth 20% of the purchase price. I think that's a great deal.Just because you don't personally like Power Play is no reason to condemn people who do like it. I've played it quite a few times myself, and when you hit with a ticket that has Power Play, it's q

A More Mega
Now, it's just been revamped with the addition of CA. But when the moratorium on new states is lifted, it might have to change again for potential MM members NC, FL (though for FL I reccommend Powerball), and who knows who else. Well, this would be my plan if I was in charge. Just a bit more put towards smaller prizes, but 28.37% of sales will still be found in the jackpot. And 1:12.748 overall odds and a CA-style mini-jackpot will get sales going all through the jackpot cycle.Pick 5 white ball

$200 Million lottery jackpot has Mega Millions players' attention
Hi iwonabigone. Welcome to LP. Here's hoping you get the opportunity to wallow in some bucks until you tire of it.I was just looking over the annuities vs lump on the USA Mega site. Although I think it's a bad thing for them to advertise the annuity as the jackpot amount, I think when things get to this level a person who believes he stands a middling chance of living another 20-30 years couldn't really go wrong by accepting that means of payment. Works out 5.5 M per year plus change after ta

Financial analyst looks at lottery jackpot cash/annuity options
You might well be right. The Powerball winner might actually make the choice to spend some of the money that belongs to him, reducing the remainder of the sum that belongs to him. You're certainly correct in asserting that he doesn't have the option if he assigns the responsibility for his fiscal decisions to the benevolent hands of Powerball officials for the duration. The British aristocracy used to do that with their erstwhile sons..... give them an annual allowance to protect them from thei

Texas Lottery considering guaranteed jackpots
Texas Lottery officials are considering guaranteed jackpots to help avoid inflated estimates like the one in June that prompted a consumer complaint to the state attorney general and cost the agency director his job.New jackpot prize guidelines proposed Monday include a guarantee the winner collect either the advertised amount or the amount calculated by sales, whichever is greater. The guarantees would apply to jackpots paid with the 25-year annuity, not to winners who choose the immediate cash
