Powerball sales skid hurts lottery profits
Everyone would be happy with $5 or 10 million. But the incredible difficulty of winning combined with the routine low jackpot amounts have a hard time getting people out their stupor. If I'm going to daydream, isn't it more fun to daydream about what you'd do with $400 million instead of $12 million? The power of the daydream is a big factor. The odds are the same whether the jackpot is $12 million or $400 million, so it does make sense to wait for the pot to hit a certain amount before you pl

Powerball is on a winners streak again!
Could putting the odds too high in comparison to the amount of players available for powerball at this time be counterproductive?Although we like to think the purpose of the game is to give us a huge check* for millions. The real purpose of the game is to provide the M.U.S.L. members revenue outside of their normal tax bases. If the odds are too high are we going to see an almost drought of activity till the DSC barrier of $100 Million** is reached? If the game stops bringing in say between $10

cash vs. annuity
When you take the lump sum, federal tax witholding is only 25%. Depending on what state you live in, the state income tax could range from 0% to 9%. Added together, that is still less than the 42% income tax rate you are quoting. DC does not charge state income tax on lottery winnings, so you would only incur the 25% federal witholding.
Withholding is what the tax authorities keep from your lottery receipt as mandated by law. What you pay in tax on the lottery winnings will be dete

continuation of winning the lottery topic
My answer depends on the size of the jackpot. If it s huge then my immediate family receives a certain amount of money in some form of trust paying in annuity form for say 30 years. It probably wouldn t be enough to retire with but it would allow them to further ones education and assist in bill paying (mortgage, etc). Some of my friends would receive the same offer. This would be a non-negotiable deal. If they found it not to their satisfaction then they could decline a guaranteed income supple

Mass. lottery winners cash in on new prize law
Man, this is slimy, even for Massachusetts. Instead of just giving the winners the money they WON, money that is sitting in STATE controlled accounts, they let them deal with shady private buyout companies to get THEIR MONEY. >Some lottery winners say it's not fair that they have to pay a private company hundreds of thousands of dollars to gain immediate access to their own prizes. No, it is not fair. But welcome to Chinatown, I mean Massachusetts.>Lottery officials say they don't offer win

Pick-6 In Tennessee
I'm hearing a lot about the future of a pick-6 game in Tennessee. While a lot of people are advocatingLotto South, I think TN should go on it's own here. We should be encouraging more in-state games. Didyou see that article predicting better Powerball sales in TN after someone won there. Imagine how wella game would do if ALL the winners were from the Volunteer State. I'm thinking of some concepts for anew in-state Lotto in Tennessee. All of the following have a payout of 50%, a mimimum jackpot

possible to form a lottery club in mass?
I've done a little with lottery pools in MA. In short, it's possible, but a real pain.First off, you know how on the back of the ticket it's got all that legal mumbo jumbo about the official rules and administrative bulletins, etc? Well one of the rules is that you agree to have your photo taken for lottery promotional stuff. So you can't legally go the anonymous trust fund route.Second, only one person can claim the prize if you win. This doesn't mean only one person can own the ticket, just th

Someone hit mega - needs a fix
Quote: Originally posted by dvdiva on March 3, 2005Not true. Powerball has broken 300 million twice. The big game once but never played that. I don't complain about jackpots if it matches the prize. Quinto's jackpot is now 4.8 million in cash equal to 1.86 times it's odds. For mega/powerball to match that odds ratio it would have to have a jackpot of 500 million. For a game where the odds are 135 million to one not even to hit it's odds as an annuity is a sign of a broken game. Something that th
