$40 Million Man's payments end

MORT CRIM: Lottery winners can become losers
Quote: Originally posted by CASH Only on July 21, 2004Lottery winners become losers if they receive annuity payments.I disagree. I think if you were getting (for example) $100,000 a year instead of a one time check for $1.5 million, you would be forced to think of the future more and be more likely to live within your means...and know that if you spend the money in 3 months it will be a long 9 months until the next check. It would help you realize the money needs to be thought about over time.

I got an idea.
Quote: Originally posted by DoctorEw220 on July 09, 2004I got this idea, and I want to send it in to the lotteries and see what they think of it, but I would like your opinion first. Let's say that the jackpot were capped for a drawing at the estimated annuity value that is advertised, and the excess jackpot money would fund future rollovers. Here's an example to clear up any confusion. Let's say that the powerball jackpot was at $190 million, but sales were enough to drive the jackpot to $21

What would you do with your new fortune
If I won, I'd most likely take the cash. I'd pay off my house(around $70,000 I owe), both of our vehicles(approximately $15,000), buy a few nice things for myself I've been wanting(i.e. computer stuff, ham radio stuff, etc.), and take that trip I've always wanted to take. I'd also give some to charities I believe in supporting. As for the money, I'd put some in bank accounts, CDs, make some diversified investments, and live off the returns and interest. The reason I'd probably take the cash is
