probability types
You and I think alike in that we choose numbers based on an event likely to happen in the near future, but how we choose our pool of numbers is quite different. I don't 'chase' numbers, I chase events/trends/scenarios, hopefully I will hit one one of these days.

Fixed Lotteries
Has anyone seen the movie Lucky Numbers ? with John Travolta. Apparently this was based on a true event of someone trying to rig the Pennsylvania lottery,I believe.

PB Challenge 8/2
Too many numbers posted has happened before .... Maddog usually knocks excess numbers off the end and lets the first 15 count in the event it isn't corrected prior to draw time.

Random Skew Vs Bias
I've read that there are formulas that mathematicians can use to calculate the parameters of randomness and bias of any event. I would imagine the lotteries audit their drawings and prizes payouts and investigate whenever those events are not within the expected parameters. When PowerBall had all those 5of5 wins last year it triggered an investigation that ended at a fortune cookie factory in New York.

US House on the brink of taking away online gambling rights
If online gambling rights are eliminated, I would be happy. For example, after poker professional Mike "The Mouth" Matusow won $1 million at 2005 WSOP main event, he spent about half of his winnings gambling online. Then his parents took it the internet away from him.

Poll - PB & MM vs a National Lottery
That could be a real problem, thinks I. It probably could be delt with using 2nd tier prizes, but since, in the unlikely event such a thing as this ever transpires, they ain't gonna ask our opinions. Likely they'll hire the same mistake-makers responsible for what we don't care for in MM and PB to try to surpass themselves on a national game. I voted 'Indifferent', but I don't suppose I actually am. I don't harbor any idealistic fantasies that a national game would be a far sight better,

The Odds Are The Reality
Quote: Originally posted by dvdiva on June 29, 2006You are looking at the math error and not getting the point. You still are confusing odds and combinations. There are online dictionaries to look up the differences. Your odds still remain at 1:1000. The combinations are off. If you spend another $10 so a total of $20 for one drawing it would be 1:50. That would be your math error. Total odds / unique tickets. To reach 1:1 you would have to cover all 1000. At over 500 tickets your odds wou

Protecting your numbers
I will phrase is differently then. What can someone do to increase there upside in a lotto that is a truly random sample? That would be to pick numbers that other are not likely to predict, because in the event of hittting a Jackpot, it would cut your upside.

code breaking and the LOtto...
Quote: Originally posted by BobP on May 28, 2006 The problem is lottery numbers don't stand for anything, they are not a measure of anything, so there is no meaning behind their order to be worked out like there is with a code. They are pictures that happen to look like numbers. Because of this we can use some math to deal with their distribution. It helps to remember a 1 has no more or less value then a 49. There are patterns and those patterns can be slid up and down the scale. So even
