Update to Pick 5, Pick 5+ and Pick 6 lotteries
A little while back, I wrote database code in Access 2000 that will generate all combination of 5 draws from a pool of X numbers. I can change the X to be 39 though my machine will likely need run over night since there's alot of processing involved. If you send me your email in a private message I can email you the output table of all 575,757 rows. I can also look into saving it as comma delimited text file since it will be too big for Excel.

9/26 Powerball statistical anomoly
If higher tiered prizes could be won consistently by reference to some system, than we would see the concept of a lottery eventually abandoned. It would become unsustainable. Its sort of like alchemy. If someone actually eventually found a way to make gold from common elements, gold would eventually become worthless, thus making the discovery worthless.
I note that Powerball has a rule that protects them from non-random win frequencies of the type discussed on this thread. They have a

Maddogs Powerball Challenge 9/22
I picked the twelve numbers that had gone the longest without a hit which meant they hadn't hit in the last 18 drawings. The last time the winning numbers had three numbers that hadn't hit in the previous 18 drawings was 04/14/07 and it has happened ten times since the matrix changed which includes the time 02/01/06 when four winning numbers hadn't hit in the previous 18 drawings.
For Wednesday drawings all but twelve numbers has hit in the last 14 drawings. 136 drawings ago on 05/31/06 all

Meadowlands (9/11) 8th Race
# 6 Bea Plus (5/2)
Odds won't be high on this one but there might be some value because another strong contender # 2 Sprightly (3/1) will be sharing the win pool. Fair odds on the two are 2/1 and 5/2 respectively.
Good luck!

Quick Picks can't match the power of Self Picks
One of the advantages of picking your own numbers is you can introduce a bias that shouldn't and can't exits with QPs.
For example, since MegaMillion changed its matrix 231 drawings back the winning combinations have matched 2000 of the 27720 possible combinations of 3's in a pool of 56 numbers. Each combination of 5 have 10 of them and about 50% of the winning combinations have 10 new ones and 40% have 9 new ones every drawing. By making sure the combinations you play have as many new co

A dollar and a dream true for PB and MM?
That's because there are only 5 numbers in each combo; (55 x 54 x 53 x 52 x 51) / (5 x 4 x 3 x 2 x 1) = 3,478,761 combos. Multiply that by the 42 pb numbers to get the total number of combos (146,107,962). If somebody played all the combos with 1 pb number they would have a 1 in 42 chance of hitting the jackpot. Or they could play all the pb numbers and have a 1 in 3,478,761 chance of hitting the jackpot.
The Florida Lotto has 6 numbers in each combo so it's (53 x 52 x 51 x 50 x 49 x 48) / (6

Lotto fever isn't what it used to be
I'm hoping several people split it, and not a pool, either- several individuals. Who really needs $330,000,000, or whatever it will be after cash option or not and taxes?
Re: the topic title, funny how we get desensitized so quickly, isn't it?
Someday there will be a $500,000,000 jackpot- and as soon as it's announced people will be talking about a $600,000,000 jackpot, etc...

$330 MILLION: Mega Millions lottery jackpot raised
Already the jackpot is growing and players like myself haven't even bought their tickets yet.
I'll be surprised if the jackpot rolls again unless all the winning numbers are in the higher 30% of number pool as they were in the last drawings. All the winning numbers are not usually clustered so close together, although it happened on 07/11/03 when all the winning numbers including the bonus number were less than 19. That happens in less than 5% of the drawings.
With that in mind, the on

Powerball & Megamillions Growing
I'd have to agree with that. Another roll will hit the cap and have about 5 million in the bonus pool. Not much. But since Mega is also high there will be less cross traffic from other states. Hard to say since both have never been this high together.
Next stop for Mega would be 245 with a cash pot of 142 million. I'm sure one of them wil get hit on the Friday/Saturday drawings. Odds of both rolling would be unprecedented. Powerball would hit the cap while Mega would be at near record levels
