Wonder where the other half of 390 mill is?
For the record, 5% interest on an $80 million sum is more than $11,000/day. Personally I wouldn't spend all that much time huddled with magical financial advisors. What exactly would be the point? I could easily distribute the money in lots of banks - not that I would necessarily do that - and live very well on ordinary bank interest. I once had a financial advisor who got very upset with me for selling Lucent stock at $100/share. He carried on and stamped his feet but I insisted

Why the sudden concern with anonymity ?
I KNEW as soon as I saw the story about them printing the guy's info that THIS would be the topic most would refer to... and I clearly agree that whoever made up the check with all the info should be fired, that won't solve the guy's possible grief. That said, I don't see a problem with a guy holding up a fake check with his name and the dollar amount on it, I DO see a problem with anything else besides those two things on it, that's a big-time screwup I am sure we all agree on - even me.

Cards For Quick Picks
justxploring, I hate cell phones ! I have one, of course, just like everyone else on earth it seems. But mine is strictly used for business calls. I think cells were sent to us from Hell ! I simply don't know who the h*ll all these people know that are so important that they have to be on their cells when they should be working or paying attention to what they're doing. There's no one in their lives that imprtant that they need to spend all that time yakking away instead of doing their J

Cards For Quick Picks
I probably should let this go, but posting is a good way to vent. I was going to make the subject matter Rude Clerk Should Be Fired. I'm probably a little too conscientious when I'm working in a store, but tonight I'm thinking about calling the regional office of 7-11. I don't know why they can't hang onto their clerks, since many of them have been very good. Maybe they don't treat their employees well or give them salary increases, but this lady got under my skin. At about 9:05 I got a

Cancer victim struggles to get $1 million lottery prize in lump sum
Yes, but if you look at the story again, it mentions that he will end up with very little. They charge a large chunk of money. Also, he still has to pay the taxes on the entire amount he won. Cash Only wrote: He probably will (spend the remainder of his time trying to get a lump sum.) What does he have to lose? T I M E As I said before, I don't blame him one bit. But if it's a losing battle, the stress will just exacerbate his condition. Maybe he should just go on that long

Indiana Lottery promotion gets crazy
Andrew Reed is one of the biggest liars this state has ever produced. He insists that Indiana's liability limit on the Daily Games is two million dollars per drawing, but is unable to point to where that limit is written or otherwise mandated. He's the Hoosier Lottery's spin doctor, and is the sole survivor of Queen Esther's axe attack, due only to his remarkable ability to lie to the public and make them believe that what we're looking at isn't what it is, it's something else. Giving Tips.
I think clerks who give out tips on scratch-offs should be fired and they should not be allowed to purchase scratch-offs from the store they work. It makes it a tampered with game for others. It's not fair and it's cheating. The clerks and the people who tip them get the winning tickets. That's why I don't buy scratch-offs. They get stepped on. There was a lottery employee who told a friend where a winning million dollar scratch-off was and that person drove to that city, bought the e

Everyone works so hard
This can't be work...because if it was, I would be fired by now. The method I have developed to date involves me carefully and maticulasly selecting, changing, modifying and then out of final frustration, scribbingly down several variations of number sets, after which I promptly and deliberately smear the ink as such that I can not tell the 8 from the 3 or the 0. Then, once all the teeth knashing, nail biting (does keep my nails trim and clean on those days at least) and several excederine migra

N.C. lottery staff win hefty bonuses
Normally I'd have a problem with this, but this bonus program actually makes sound financial sense. Not so much for Shaheen or the top deputies whose careers were probably at risk if they missed the deadline, but for the middle managers and peons who actually MAKE THE LOTTERY WORK it makes a lot of sense. We've all dealt with government employees. For the most part they don't work very efficiently. They really don't care whether they make a sale, or whether the customer is happy, or whet

NC Will Be A Ball State-99% Chance Anyway
With all the wacky things that have happened with other state lotteries so far I wouldn't be surprised of anything they do! That's true for me. I can't believe the stuff I read about other state lotteries. Just because NC has had a time getting a lottery started when other states have had one in place for many years doesn't mean that we need to continue bashing NC because what I've read right here on LP about the crap that goes on in other state lotteries it looks like NC have a helluv lot
