81-year-old Mass. man sentenced to prison for part in multimillion-dollar lottery ticket scam
Let this be a lesson to the rest of you. Wait until you're old if you're going to conspire to commit tax fraud, and file false tax returns, so that you get a really short prison sentence.

An Illinois correctional officer has been charged with forging a lottery ticket worth tens of thousands of dollars. Darrell Barry, 46, is charged in Cook County with a felony count of fraud and a felony count of violation of Illinois lottery law, Illinois State Police said in a statement. Barry turned himself into the custody of state police on July 12 at the Chicago Police District 1 headquarters, 1718 S. State St., state police said. Lottery state chart/anonymity and claimants
Potentially Great news. The pending bill is already on the list. I always laugh when the lottery officials speak of transparency since the biggest multi-state fraud was committed by a lottery employee.

Lottery winner can seek bigger prize at trial, judge rules
I think anything that potentially broadens the rights of players, especially where the state lottery causes the fraud, is a good thing. Remember that the woman in New Hampshire with her lawsuit regarding anonymity, seems to have lit a fire on the broader issue of the right to remain anonymous in multiple states.

Mississippi hires experienced executive for its new lottery
A fortune cookie incident. Where 110 players played the same numbers that were inside their fortune cookies. At first the Lottery Organization suspected fraud but the investigator found the truth. A very rare event. I would think that insurance may be purchased before any game is played.

Audit of California Lottery finds over $305,000 in improper or dubious spending
auditors said a manager had $13,280 in unallowable mileage costs. I was once threatened with being fired for just over $30 in a mileage cost dispute. Someone should have caught most, if not all, of this and people should have been fired. Then the lottery puts out a email saying no fraud found, that means THEY are the issue, starts from the top.

Undercover Kentucky Lottery investigation snares three store employees trying to steal prizes
IMO, the problem with this testing program is wrongly assuming all stores with lottery terminals educate their clerks on proper ticket cashing procedures This operation is correctly designed to only bust dishonest clerks because the clerks' intention to defraud was evidenced by them taking the tickets to the claim center to redeem for themselves. An honest but dumb clerk who didn't understand how to use the scanner or know jack about cashing procedures wouldn't go that far, and so they wouldn

Buy only winning scratch offs in Minnesota with my help!
If you thought you found a security flaw in MN scratch offs, why wouldn't you contact the MN lottery with your concerns? Or why wouldn't you keep it to yourself and discreetly profit? Roping in strangers on a public forum to join in fraud is what law enforcement agents do when they're running a sting operation. Best of luck to you officer, hope you get a nice big raise.

What Stops an Agent From Selling Pre-Scanned Tickets?
It's impossible. At least here in VA and I would hope every other state. All you can do by scanning the back is to activate the roll. There's no way to check to see if it's a winner or not without scratching the front which means you will eat the ticket if it's a loser. (That or get busted for fraud) Only an idiot would buy a ticket with the bar code scratched off.
