Arkansas watches as Tenn rethinks lottery scholarships
As someone who has spent 20 years in and around the industry, this is always an interesting discussion.
Everyone knows that most players lose most of the time. Its just the way lottery games work. The non-jackpot prizes are supposed to help players rationalize continuing to play while they wait for the big one (in whatever game they like).
College scholarships are the best you win even when you lose argument ever - even better than the lower-tier prizes in my book. People who wou

Dear Governor Rendell
Dear Governor Rendell,
Are you aware of what our Lottery Executives are doing? I am writing you to protest decisions they are making that continue to destroy the PA Lottery as well as the enthusiasm of those who play in our great state.
One, the number matrix of the very popular Cash 5 Game, a game won at least every other night on average, is increasing from 39 numbers to 43 numbers and this increases the odds against Pennsylvanians winning. This is probably the most popular PA game yet

I was talking about the new give away section being added where even non-members can watch people win each week. Multiple features. All users, and non users if you choose, being able to see the winners list updated each week and watch other users/members win, what they did with the money, ect.
And of course the percent of give away membership sales you get to rightfully use to expand with and put in your pocket, just like any profit from lotterypost including advertising, gift shop, ect. Th

Tenn. Lottery CEO claims recent errors didn't hurt sales
In another article, battle between border states:
Even so, the lottery had a smaller percentage increase in total education dollars in the fiscal year ending in June compared with the previous year, figures show.
Total education funding increased about 3 percent this past fiscal year, compared with about 18 percent growth in fiscal year 2006, according to lottery data.
Ms. Hargrove said one reason for the smaller increase in 2007 is that there were no Powerball jackpots that reached mo

N.C. Lottery celebrating 1st birthday
..... Current law requires at least 35 percent of lottery profits be used to support education-related causes, such as class-size reduction and need-based scholarships. Easley has asked the General Assembly to decrease the sum to 29 percent, saying the difference would help create higher jackpots and more prizes for scratch-off tickets.
The anticipated sales boost would lead to $1.5 billion in sales during the next fiscal year and increase funds for education, Easley said. .........

Probability of a MegaMillions rollover.
Even the people running the lottery have trouble estimating how many tickets will be sold at these levels. For the levels that are seen commonly they've got good data to work with and a 10% error is insignificant in real dollars. That make sit pretty easy for them to make a relaible estimate When advertised jackpots go over $200 million there's not much data to work with and there's a lot more unpredictability. For a $50 million jackpot there's a small but dependable minority who will spend

2 million dollar Supercomputer?
I was going to post this today and i forgot it (lately, i've been getting very forgetful, i think is the pills i take)..Thanks for reminding me...
In the future, they are going to use Supercomputers to crack encryption...They are going to go through all the combinations that a rotor machine has and crack encryptions...Now a days they got encryptions that has 100's of rotors but a supercomputer will be able to crack it open...
I said this like 9 months ago though i can't remember exactly...

All Pick 6..All States Test
As I've said in this thread and elsewhere, I don't believe that lottery results are perfectly random, but I also don't believe the results are far enough from random that we can use whatever bias there is to predict future results. The 104 drawings per year that most jackpot games offer just don't give us enough data. Thereforee my stategy is simply to have a combination that nobody else plays. I may not be able to increase my chances of winning, but I may be able to reduce my chances of sharin

Iowa Lottery sales jump 60% in last 12 months
Iowa Lottery sales more than doubled in the last 12 months according to a report released today, fueled in large part by those now-silent TouchPlay machines.
The Iowa Lottery recorded a 60 percent increase in sales of its products over the 12-month state fiscal year that began July 1st, 2005 and ended on June 30th of this year. TouchPlay machines were shut down on May 4th. But during their last 11 months of operation, those TouchPlay machines yielded $121.4 million in revenue for the state-ru

Protecting your numbers
I use a similar strategy. For many years I kept a file on certain types of lottery drawings and wrote a computer program to process them, accounting, among other things, for their frequency in drawings that resulted in higher than average numbers of winners. No such program is infallable, since the majority of tickets sold are quick picks, but you can increase the liklihood that if your numbers come up, you will win alone. This is called raising your expectation value.
The effect is
