Why are lump sum jackpot payouts shrinking?
Hi,
Any insights why Powerball and Mega Game cash payout amounts keep getting smaller as a percentage of the total jackpot? 12-18 months ago the lump-sum payout percentage was approx 57% of the total jackpot, but it has been gradually shrinking over time. After staying around 53-52% for many months, it's recently dropped to 50%, and in the last few drawings is now 48%. I would think with interest rates going up the annuity factor would be larger, not smaller.
Any insights here would be

Florida Fantasy-5 Players
One thing about JPT and it's 2 million dollar jackpots and The Cash Option.....
The Annuity Option is as follows, 25 annual payments for JACKPOT TRIPLE PLAY to receive 2 million dollars before taxes.
Jackpot Triple Play winners who want to receive a single cash payment must claim their prizes within the first 60 days after the draw date . Applicable federal income tax withholding will be deducted at the time payments are made for the cash option.
If you take The Cash Option, obvious

Major claim deadline approaching for Illinois lottery winner of $1.337 billion Mega Millions jackpot
I invite you to take a look at this site: https://www.usamega.com/
Then look at the Jackpot Analysis under both games. Take a good look at the first line regarding the Federal Tax over time for the annuity payments and the sudden extremely large Cash Jackpot Prize.
Go down and find your state on the list and like to it notice the SMALLER FEDERAL TAX payments for fed and state taxes.
Are you aware that there are about seven states where there are no State Income Taxes and even a few

Major claim deadline approaching for Illinois lottery winner of $1.337 billion Mega Millions jackpot
a closed loved one of mine,
in Killeen, Tx., was saying something about that. just wanted to say that today.
This is a very sad thing, if the woman does not claim it. (or man) because I'm one who is in her late 30s, so basically tipping on middle age. I would want LUMP SUM if my child age, she 20, and early 20s both girls. or, if i was middle age already mid 40s fifties, and up i would still want LUMP SUM. I am one who do not trust any gov't with my

Wiki has a different take......
Whittaker already had a net worth of over $17 million before his windfall.[4] On Christmas Eve 2002, Whittaker purchased the winning Quick Pick ticket at a supermarket in Hurricane, West Virginia, where he had stopped for a deli breakfast sandwich and to get fuel for his vehicle.[5] He was not a regular lottery player but bought $100 in tickets because the jackpot was so high. He played the lottery only when it reached $100 million.[3]
The jackpot that

Do you play PB & MM despite the jackpot size or..
Personally, I've considered what you say here in Texas. The odds of hitting 5+0 in MM or PB are approximately 1 in 12 million to 1 in 13 million (depending on the game). The odds of hitting the Lotto jackpot in Texas are approximately 1 in 26 million. Right now the Lotto jackpot (cash, not annuity) is $3.99 million. Of course, the biggest difference is the cost of a ticket. $2 for MM and PB ($3 with multiplier), $1 for Lotto.
The Texas 2 Step occasionally will roll to a million plus, and the

Mega Million and Mutliplier
The megaplier number is chosen at the time of each draw. It can be 2x,3x,4, or 5x. So each prize level is multiplied by whatever mulitplier number is drawn. It costs an extra dollar to play the multiplier.
Same goes for Powerball (Powerplay) except it also has a 10x, which only will available when the annuity jackpot is $150 million or less. It also costs an extra dollar to play.
They both have been around for quite a while (don't know how long).
I had the Megaball 9 last night which pa

Mega millions jackpot- billion dollars? (REDUX)
Speculating about it when the jackpot is 100 or 200 million is a bit premature, but every time the jackpot resets there's chance that it could each 1 billion. It's just not a very good chance. Things that matter change from drawing to drawing, but figure the chances at the start of a new roll are about 1 to 2%.
The current jackpot is a good example of a worst case scenario for getting there. The cash value is about 74% of the advertised jackpot, which is unusually high, and that means it took

Mega Millions lottery jackpot raised to $447 million on strong sales
Powerball went from 410 million to 470 million. I can't believe it went up 60 million.
The worksheet at https://www.txlottery.org/export/sites/lottery/Games/Powerball/Estimated_Jackpot.html showed the actual jackpot at just over 427 million sometime on Wednesday afternoon so, as above, it's really an increase of 43 million. I'm surprised they didn't bother raising the advertised jackpot by mid-afternoon on Wednesday.
Now we can wait and see if MM gets bumped up again tomorrow, and if PB
