Four contenders will vie for winning lottery ticket in court
One thing this article didn't make clear is that Maverik has a policy in it's employee handbook that the employee who made the mistake is financially responsible for reimbursing the store for the ticket. Now, the Statesman article says Maverik Corporation claims to have eaten the cost on a great number of these tickets. However, I remember going into a Jacksons store and a clerk begging me to buy a $5 ticket one of her customers had rejected. She said her store required her to buy these tic

If it rolls
I just saw the news article linked below, and it says that according to the Michigan Lottery Commissioner, who heads the MM group, the estimated annuity jackpot will be estimated tomorrow as $470 million if there isn't a winner tonight. The article completely screwed up the info on the lump sum and taxes for the current jackpot, so it may also have comletely screwed up what the commissioner really said, but with a jump of 95 to 100 million for this roll it's a safe bet that the 470 figure is

Fixed Lotteries
As long as they do pretests and rotation of the tubes which hold the balls, they're messing around with the natural flow of the semi-chaotic outcome of certain numbers. In an article written in the New York Daily news, a few years ago, revealed why they rotate the tubes. The commisioner himself admitted that the reason was to eliminate any patterns from forming. I held that article in my hand. I also showed it to people around me who claimed that there were no such things as patterns. Oh w

'Lucky guy' sells ticket that wins half of $42 mllion Lotto jackpot
I have read and re-read this article , can someone please recite the paragraph where HO said he expected the money for selling the ticket? The best I could read into this article is he was happy for the winner and folks think that HO is lucky. I agree in part that the person behind the counter isnt entitled or mandated to have a share in the winnings. I am against tipping . And on a contradictory note, I'll give to those in need. Ask humbly and ye shall receive.... beg for it/or expect it

'Lucky guy' sells ticket that wins half of $42 mllion Lotto jackpot
Now that I've read the latest press release in Florida, either the clerk was telling the truth or it was a lucky guess. The winner is 26 and is a male. It doesn't matter, he blew it when he told a reporter he expected something. Maybe the winner would have quietly given him a gift to say thanks, but after reading the above article, I might stay way from that store for a while. Interesting comment the winner made, but it might be a misquote. He's 26 and said he'll never work again (as

New lawsuit claims Indiana Lottery did not award all prizes
He doesn't need his head examined, he needs it adjusted because there was never a guarantee. I'm firmly in the camp that figures anyone who can afford to invest $40k in something that will almost certainly be a losing investment doesn't need to play the lottery. As far as his math,he may have been right , but the article doesn't have enough factual information to know. I'll assume the game was supposed to return 50% of the ticket cost as prizes. If 20% of tickets were unsold and 40% or more o

Look at this craziness in NY!
It's always good to remember that the expertise of most so-called experts is more often in their ability to market themselves than to offer sound opinions or useful info. This result reminds me of an article I once saw that claimed 1,2,3,4,5,6 is an unlikely combination because double digit numbers are more likely to be drawn than single digit numbers. As if that wasn't stupid enough, the article said nothing about how many winners there would be if 1,2,3,4,5,6 were actually drawn. It's also i

Last day for Lotto South
Unless they're going to do something with the money that isn' mentioned in the article, it looks like the correct answer may be that a lot of it is going to stay in the state coffers. If Kentucky lists the number of winners on their website they don't do it in a very obvious place. I'm not going to spend a lot of time looking, but based on the numbers for Virginia and Georgia it looks like doubling the payouts for lower prizes won't even come close to using all of the money from the jackpot pri

Maryland Lottery breaks weekly sales record
Thanks Four4me. Left for New York alittle while after commenting on this article. It's so good to be home. I understand that the article is about Maryland's intake of all of the money that most of us are putting out. I just think that it is so unfair that the Official Site doesn't show the payouts for pick 3/4. I maybe wrong, but I have a feeling that we all are putting out alot of money but not winning much. I remember some years ago, there would occassionally be reports of Maryland paying

gravity machine or computer??
The biggest problem with computers is that there is no real way to know how their random number is being generated. Online casinos are not to be trusted for the same reasons. Some time ago I saw an eloquent article of how the online casinos can program their games so that it satisfies "random" legally while at the same time making it next to impossible to beat them for any amount of "real" money. Very much unlike land Casinos. There is also the issue that the lottery commissions themsel
