Many Lottery Winners in MA Use a Trust
Just something interesting I noticed a few weeks ago at the MA Lottery web site. Lots of winners with photos posted ... I started to notice one picture over and over holding up a large 'ceremonial check' ... the same smiling person and name ... representing a 'trust'.
You will notice other trust names and photos but this one guy, David Spillane, just stands out ... seems to be the 'go to person' for setting up a trust dealing with a lottery win.
You can check the winners list at the lotter

$80 million Powerball jackpot lottery ticket sold in Michigan
I believe that Julie Leach won $140 million after all taxes were paid. She planned to create a small community of homes where her kids would live. I wonder if she was successful in her dream.
Julie gave a very good press availability interview when accepting the over sized check from the Michigan Lottery Commissioner Scott Bowen. She appeared to be a great Mom and Grandmother.
The railroad engineer from Lapeer, MI is named Donald Lawson. I do not know how he is doing.
Congrats to th

One lottery ticket sold in California wins $530 million Mega Millions jackpot
It has been three weeks since this win. I hope the winner/s are getting all their ducks in a row.
Hiring Attorneys, Financial advisers, Insurance agents, publicity agents, CPA,
As stated by a previous post the only requirements are that the name/s of the winner/s, the store name, Lump Sum or Annuity will be released to the public.
CA gives a winner/s 365 days from the date of the drawing to claim the prize.
Cheers to the unknown winner/s who may have purchased the ticket after a

South Carolina man wins $10 million lottery prize during lunch break
but it would take a calamity of some sort for it not to be paid out. a calamity which would wipe out his investment also more than likely.
Remember when the state of Illinois couldn't pay its lottery winners? That wasn't because of a calamity that affected other investors, just bad governance. (They eventually paid what they owed winners.)
the track record for winners of similar amounts hasn't been that great making it last 20 years plus.
You don't know that. You only know what yo

North Carolina grandfather gives lottery winnings to granddaughter
bearer instruments.
Which only means that there's not a record of who owns it. Just like cash. There's still an owner, and it seems clear that Grandpa was the legal owner until after finding out that the ticket won the lifetime annuity.
It's pretty clear that for income tax purposes you don't get the income until after submitting your claim, but you own the ticket and its (potential) winnings from the moment you purchase it (as everyone seems to agree in the thread about getting divorce

$10M North Carolina lottery winner plans to spoil 12 grandkids
He decided to take the lump sum, not the annuity.
He received a check of 4,245,009 after required state and federal tax withholdings. And, he will owe more to the IRS next year when he files his income tax return.
Since they only withhold 24% federal taxes, he will most likely owe the 13% balance (less any charitable contributions).
The article states that I buy three or four [tickets] a week, Duncan said when he got the check. Those are $30 tickets x 3-4 each week. That's $90-$120 ever

$750 MILLION: Powerball lottery jackpot surges to 4th-largest ever
You are a much more patient than I would be maximumfun... Letting the state where you purchased your ticket dictate what your payment would be over 29 more years and taking a chance on what the federal tax rate maybe in 10/15/20/25 years. Especially if it is controlled by 1 of the political groups who just love increasing taxes. As we all know, money doubles based on rule 72. So,take the $465.5 with 37% taxes right now or gamble on taxes going lower/higher in 2030 or 2040 ?? Don't Forget about t

$495 MILLION: Powerball lottery jackpot climbs, awaits its first winner of 2019
Thanks to the Lottery Post Staff for the good news about California's second place award. That would be a nice consolation prize but not the amount I am aiming at.
For all States that do not tax Lottery winnings the ATTH After Tax Take Home= $189,000,000.00
I only use the Annuity and Cash Lump Sum to calculate the ATTH amount.
I plan to say NO to the Media Availability and the Photo Celebrity. I will give the Lottery a written statement for the Press. I will mention Lottery Post.com,

What would you do if you won a $300 mil jackpot?
Is that $300 mil the annuity amount or the cash value?
If the SC winner is an individual they should clear more than $490 million, but so far nobody has taken home more than about $275 million. That's what Mavis Wanczyk would have cleared after paying state and federal taxes at the highest rates on the $480 million cash value. We'll continue to see the occasional giant jackpots and increasing records, but the chances of clearing $300 million are far smaller than the already minuscule chance
