NJ family of 8 claims $429.6 million Powerball lottery jackpot
Thanks for getting LP back on track. Gee, sounds like you were talking about the late David Edwards who split the KY Powerball prize and basically blew the whole thing. Can still see his news appearance in the back of my mind saying, looking skyward 'Lord I will change my ways'. Well the rest is history and he didn't.

The Lottery Changed My Life...
David Edwards paid cash for his house when he initially purchased it back in 2001. He later took a mortgage out through Bank of America for $400k when he started running out of money. The HOA dues are a monthly recurring fee set by the association and is not part of the home price or mortgage. The note holder/BOA only wanted their investment back which is why the home was auctioned off at $400k

Most lottery winners live quiet lives.
..unless you a David Edwards or that character from Florida * Richard Lustig, who is considered a media whore when the jackpot climbs into the $300mil plus range. For the most part, winners will have their say before the cameras or claim anonymously and go about their business.. Minding their own business unless you want to draw attention to yourself as the above mentioned characters..** this of course is just my opinion.

Powerball winner dies penniless, 12 years after winning $27 million
Yes, you are correct, this news article is missing some key pieces included in some past news stories, that 70% of big lottery winners go broke in 5 years. David Edwards is, unfortunately, in good company.

Would you move to a non income tax state if you won?
Moving to Florida didn't help David Edwards hang on to his lottery winnings. It sure didn't. He also never really made an attempt to earn any income from his windfall so residing in a non-income tax state was of no benefit.

LOL I think 2 homes elsewhere equals the cost of 1 in NYC, especially the spot you've chosen. I'm quite confident I am capable of managing the money more so than you or David Edwards.

CNBC writer looking for lottery players
Maybe Zac thought the stories of Jack Whittaker and David Edwards had been told too many times and he needed some newer ones to tell. He'll probably discover finding interesting stories about lottery players is as hard as winning a lottery jackpot, it's easier just to make one up. When it comes to talking about lotteries, the truth isn't very interesting.

What is your jackpot wish for Today & Saturday?
His advisor had his winnings invested in a annuity paying him $85k per month for the rest of his life and that wasn't enough for David Edwards. He cashed out and proceeded to blow his entire fortune. Just because an annuity option is available doesn't mean someone who can't handle money is safe. There have been many past winners who had taken the annuity option simply because the cash lump payout wasn't available and cashed out.

Missouri Powerball winners live modestly, give back to hometown
Thanks faber. Glad to hear you read and agreed with some of my musings. Good to know some people are reading these replies and myself and others aren't just typing-in-the-wind, so to speak. I also agree with points you made in earlier replies here. What's the point in playing the lottery in the first place if not to live it up should lady luck ever bless you with a supernatural win! especially at their age... And for the life of me I don't know how they could continue to stay in Missouri
