I was thinking about it today at work. I scanned my voucher in the machine. His tickets where still printing. which i did not know cause he walked away The machine did not credit me till after his tickets where done printing. That why he blurted out. some ideas if you don't want to end up in a situation where a clerk is shaking you down for a tip:
1) buy your tickets online if your state allows it
2) in case you can't buy online, buy from a machine in a large store where the employees don't see you as a regular.
3) check your tickets yourself (eyeballs or phone app) instead of having a clerk scan it.
4) if you win a small enough prize to claim in-store, do it at a store where they don't know you. familiarity emboldens clerk

DC Lottery offers compensation for players affected by computerized draw error
I've always defended the lottery when people post this draw history is bad by pointing out that randomly drawn numbers can generate patterns that may look funny in retrospect, but if they are random and unpredictable, then there's nothing wrong with it. Not any more!
