winning the lottery and retirement
While $52,000 is a nice sum, it is not enough to retire on. Just because people play lotteries, it doesn't mean that they don't save for retirement. $40 a week would be nice meal out, very cheap meal in many areas.

Illinois postal worker wins $4 million lottery prize
Hopefully no more working through the blizzards and heatwaves. Unless he had some other federal job before the USPS gig he'll probably need to tough out the next 3 years to keep the nice pension he's devoted 17 years to. $2.4 million, presumably before taxes, isn't nearly enough for him to retire and have the same income he probably has now.

9/11 hero wins $5 million NY Lottery prize
Congratulations Carmello, on another huge financial haul for you and yours! It's amazing how a New York City firefighter forced to retire [way early] due to Ground Zero ailments can receive: a good monthly disability income, a great monthly pension income, a great fully-paid full-family health and dental insurance plan, another child, renewed vitality, and a multi-million net lump-sum jackpot payoff from the NY Lottery Headquarters!

16 N.Y. biotech workers claim $58M Mega Millions jackpot
Yes, Piaceri, I agree, with your thoughts! LOL. Of course, when one's lottery group decides to take the 'we're gambling each week route' it becomes necessary to have a small group. I would bet that lots of these winners have probably been thinking: Darn!, if we had limited our lottery pool/group to 8 players, we each would have been able to retire from full-time work employment within 45 days -- once electronic transfer of monies received -- and live a rather joyful and comfortable lifestyle

TLC's The Lottery Changed My Life
Watching Leroy and I have to say I don't think God made two people stupider than this. I love it when the son says he's the financial advisor and then says the tv was a great investment. That not even Tom Cruise has a tv like that. Did he really think those cheap knives were actually going to appreciate in value? Did he really think that at 31 he could retire just because his dad took home $1 million? And through all their ridiculous purchases had the gall to keep collecting food stamps. Sorry,

Continue Wheeling??
Really you would quit playing after winning $100,000? And remember that isn't even the full amount because taxes will get taken out of it so that doesn't leave you much. And yes I know it's still a lot of money and you could still do a bunch of things with that amount, but it's not enough money for most people to retire or quit their jobs for. So yeah I would continue playing.
