Canadian couple gives away entire $11.2M lottery jackpot
This wasn't US though, so that's the amount they got. It didn't go half because of advertised annuity and then half again for taxes (I know it's not actually half here but you get what I'm saying).
In the Washington Post it actually said they won $10.9 million and they gave $10.6 million away (98%).

This is a good story to here, though. My first thought was well if you didn't want the mon

$140M Mega Millions lottery ticket sold in Michigan
Everybody's coming in saying, 'Oh man we hope it's a local person, we hope since it wasn't me that it's somebody who knows me and loves me!'
Looks like the moochers are lineing up already.
I look forward to hearing about the winner. I wish them many happy filled years ahead.
Wonder if the ticket was purchased for the annuity or cash value?
Went to the Mega Millions Lottery web site but saw nothing about it

Do lottery tickets expire so the lottery commission can deny paying prizes?
i agree with you...i asked myself that before...
i think they might worry that people will try to fasificate/copycat them...
Something else i suspect..i dont know if the lottery can alter what plays but it gives me the sensation that if you can beat their game and you are someone with radical ideas or beliefs, they will cut you off and choose anoter winners...Just like in sponsonships and stuff....
1 reason why it will expire in 6 months is because it could be that the money they are pa

Do lottery tickets expire so the lottery commission can deny paying prizes?
I never could understand why people buy lottery tickets that could be worth millions and just put them away and forget about them. Personally, when I buy my Power ball, Mega Millions, Hot Lotto, Delaware Multi win tickets, I want to know what the numbers are as soon as the drawing is over. I carefully put the tickets in a safe place so that I don't wash them away in the laundry or let them blow out the window of the car, etc.
I see stories where these things happen...other stories where the p

Powerball outmuscles Mega Millions in sales, jackpots
why worry about the swithover time. just play each game on thursday and sunday. you can cut down on your trips to the store to buy tickets and don't have to go out late to get a ticket. since powerball has come to washington this is what i do. it works and i have not missed a drawing yet. oh by the way i am a multidrawing player and i always play that way.
i didn't realize that powerball had a growing annuity over 29 years. i think it is a good thing because it would keep me from spending up

Powerball outmuscles Mega Millions in sales, jackpots
I'll take the loser jackpot happily! :-)
But don't forget to compare the cash values too.
PB tends to bloat the annuity value, when most people will take the cash value.
And PB has harder odds too.
So I'll buy both...

Powerball jackpot seems very inflated.
I don't remember the cash option ever being so low.
$175M jackpot but only a $84.1M jackpot. That is only a 48% cash option. I don't remember it being so low and interets rates really haven't rise that much.
Mega Millions has a $105M jackpot and a $64M cash option. That is a 61% cash option.
I was surprised at how quickly the Powerball jackpot was rising, but if you look closely its really not that much. What interest rate factor are they using? I know their annuity is 5 years longer
