selling a winning ticket
Late at night there is an advertisement that comes on the northern OH TV stations asking if you have a Structured settlement that you wish to cash in and ends with It's your cash, use it when YOU want to This piece of scum advertiser cashed in a structured settlement for some lottery jackpot winner a few years back, giving him about 30% (yes--that's 30%) of what was left of his structured annuity settlement from the lottery in exchange for a lump sum which they promptly tore through..

Hoosier Lottery
<>There is no official documentation Guru! That's the point! At one time the 40% information was posted on the website but it has since been taken down. Along with any and all reference to the Cash Value other than the one you posted. Which again is WRONG! <>Call the Hoosier Lottery and ask them what the Cash Value of the Jackpot is if you don't believe me. Ask them specifically if it is now a flat 40% and see what they tell you. I had a series of e-mail and regula

How Long Will It Be Until We Have A Lotto Billionaire ?
The MM people were definitely caught off guard unless they were being very cautious about advertising ajackpot that was too high. When the previous jackpot rolled they initially advertised the next jackpot as $340 million. On Monday they bumped it to 355 and they bumped it again, to 370, about 24 hours later. After the two bumps increased it by $30 million, the final accounting added another $20 million for an increase of $115 million over the previous jackpot. That was just over a 40% jump

Why do you get more with Mega Millions?
It is only useful to compare the cash value. This is what the lottery is actually worth. There are simply two different investing strategies used to inflate the jackpot for advertising purposes. Which lottery is a better bet depends on jackpot size. For a powerball and MM at the same cash value, the PB is a better bet since the odds are better for PB, although still astronomical. The expectation value is the ratio of the potential payoff to the odds. The higher the expectati

Taking a Break from the Lottery
I believe the MAJORITY of people who play the lottery would classify themselves as lottery losers or in a loonnnnggg non-winning slump. I always note those winners who care to share how they won who say they either didn't play regularly and decided to just buy a ticket (usually a QP) while at the C-store or those who say that had just decided to replay an own pick combo again and it hit that draw. The conclusion I draw from this is you just never know when you might have purchased the winni

What would you do if you had the winning lottery ticket BUT.
Regardless of how you choose to do it, it's always possible to have somebody else's name released to the public if you win a lottery jackpot. The earliest example I'm aware of was the group of machinists who won nearly 300 million (annuity) in '98 who had a lawyer represent them. I've always been curious how much he charged for his services. How much would you want to have your name released for all the crackpots you're worried about to call up with their requests and sob stories? Then there'

would you play in a jackpot pool
The thought of people here pooling together and winning a PB or MM jackpot is a nice thought, but that's about as far as it goes. OldSchoolPa brought up some excellent points, especially the second or third tier prize. Lets' take the money and wait for the next big jackpot and really go for it. No, I want my share of the prize. On top of that, considering the number of threads on annuity versus cash option alone, if it happened it would probably be an absolute nightmare.

Wonder where the other half of 390 mill is?
MegaWinner...I wonder if the NJ Lottery wants you to set up an account with a financial institution so they can wire the money to your account. In California the lottery will not wire your funds to a bank. You must pick up the check and take it to your bank or where ever you choose to transact your financial business. Should you choose the annuity they will send subsequent payments to your bank. At the time this information was printed (which was 2004 and is still currently on the CA Lot
