Probability of a MegaMillions rollover.
Some interesting related facts.
If MM rolls over, it will easily shatter the recent $365M annuity valued Powerball value when it is viewed in Cash terms. That cash jackpot was $177M.
The putative $750 million jackpot would be the first jackpot in the series that, if a winner was produced, that would have a more than 50% probability of having one winner. Under these circumstances the total probability of there being 2 or more winners would be 42%, one winner 34% and no winners 24%. Stil

Mega Millions lottery jackpot increased to $256 million

Hummm, notice how they NEVER mention that the promoted number is only valid if you choose annuity, and if the investment works out as planned! You are expected to read all the documents associated with the Mega Millions Lottery, plus all the documentation from the state you buy the ticket in. If the automobile industry fails, the advertisers will always

Probability of a Rollover in Powerball.
The Powerball jackpot has rolled. The cash value is $9.2M. The annuity value is $20 M. The running average for second draws since the recent matrix change is $12.7M in sales. If the number of tickets sold remains close to this average, the probability of various numbers of winners is:
091.67%
17.97%
20.35%
30.01%

what would you do with 365 million??
instantaccess I like your ideas.
*ducks from CASHONLY* I would choose the annuity.
I know I would definitely build a new home so my (5) kids would each have their own room, pay off all my bills and help out my family members. Based on my figures I would be quite happy with 10% of the annual check for living money, and 10% for retirement. another 5% for helping others and the remaining 75% would go into trust for each of my 5 children for their education and futures.
My needs are sim

Best Method to Collect - Powerball
Get the money - where is the confusion? Bird in the hand thing. How do you know what the government people have in store for you tomorrow? Do you think the Tax Cutting George Bush will be around forever? Do you really believe a Democrat won't raise taxes as soon as possible? Look what Billie-Bob Clinton did. Promised no taxes, then raised all taxes - including death tax back for six months.
The state of New Jersey is whinning about being almost bankrupt - because of corrupt politicians,

Powerball lottery jackpot reaches $250 million
Don't ask why I was on the CT lottery web site, because I don't know...just surfing. Anyway, it was interesting to read in their PB section that when jackpots reach $100M they authorize high traffic retailers to enforce their own House Rules including selling only QPs and limiting the tickets to 100 per customer. A winner also only has 60 days to decide how he wants to claim the prize and their 30 year graduated annuity looks like a total rip-off the way they show it, paying less than $2M for

Probability of a MegaMillions rollover.
The MM has rolled over. The cash value is now $51.9M and the annuity value is $88. A running average of 9th draw sales since the matrix change suggests that the sales will be around 24.6M. If this many tickets are ultimately sold, the probability of various numbers of winners is given in the following table:
086.94%
112.17%
20.85%
30.04%

Probability of a MegaMillions rollover.
I really can't say, since we haven't gone beyond there. This is a mathematical model that uses curve fitting techniques to generate model sales figures from which I generate the jackpots. It doesn't make educated guesses. It's pure math. The curve is determined by inputs of sales from previous drawings. Each point is generated by a running average. The $315 jackpot only has one data point input so far, whereas the current jackpots have 5 different jackpots that have reached this area.

The Math and The Lottery
I've read several times that two third of lottery winners used quick picks, so it's obvious that most winners don't use any type of analysis at all and do just fine. I'm sure it's been written here many times, but most people buy QPs which is why they win all the time. Even people who choose random numbers will say give me a couple of QPs once in a while. The winning numbers on Wed in FL were 3-4-5-9-44-51. It was a QuickPick. $46million won by one person. (Why would a 20 year old take th

***grabbing wheel and trying to steer the thread back on topic***Rundown99: I have no definite proof that an advance is given, I believe that the actual practice of the MUSL (IF Choosing ANNUITY) is to pay 30 payments over 29 years... that first one being given right away (well, as soon as the ticket is validated-I have read that this can take as much as 8 weeks in PA)as to your what if?the ticket is a bearer document, the lottery will award the prize to whoever turns in the ticket... which is w
