Is Powerball just going to rot away?
Billion Dollar Jackpots are fine but they should be done with Raffles. When PB set the record they sold about 635 million tickets for the record jackpot of $1.59 billion and 440 million tickets for the jackpot of $948 million. 30 months later MM only sold 370 million tickets for a jackpot of $1.54 billion. Those tickets only cost $2 each, and you can be positive the cost of the tickets had two effects. One was a huge influence on how many tickets players bought, and the other was how much r

Country House declared Kentucky Derby winner after Maximum Security disqualified
When I saw the payoffs, the first thing I thought was how PB and MM have created huge jackpots to entice new players and the comparison to past and this year's Derby payoffs. My sister-in-law always bets across the board on four for five long shots and won almost $250. But it's really the exotic bet payoffs that reminded me of jackpot lottery games. In the last three years 10 cent superfecta bets paid $7500, $1980 and this year $5140. A 50 cent bet this year returns $1500 on the exacta and $5727

Do You Know Anyone Who's Ever Won the Jackpot?
I worked in a building that employed over 3000 people, many of them played lottery games, a few won jackpots under $100,000 and four people won over $1 million. I worked with three of them and the fourth was an acquaintance. Two of them split a $20 million jackpot, retired on Monday and never worked there again. One guy that won $2 million got 20 yearly $100,000 payments because there was no cash option. He worked another five years and the fourth won $5 million and just quit because he wasn't n

Pick Ten
I saw there were two 10/10 winners within a week. I also found it interesting that happened after I questioned the game publicly on this forum. Perhaps I'm being paranoid, but perhaps not. Can you tell me why Pick Ten is the one game where the jackpots don't roll over and the one game that doesn't have a live televised drawing and the one game where they don't list the locations of the winners on their website, along with whether they played regular, quick pick, free game, play it again, etc?

Lottery Insider Spring 2019 Edition
ELDERLY AND RETIRED PERSONS ARE ADVISED NO9T TO GAMBLE, LOTTERY IS A GAMBLE......... Looks like a straightforward admission that the whole system is crap and the disclaimer is to cover their rear ends. BTW, based on what evidence do they assume that Chinese matematicos are smarter than the western ones? And why all matematicos rather stick to their university/research faculties than use their skills for raking lottery jackpots? I guess we all know the answers. Aquarius

Arizona becomes latest state to shield lottery winners' names
Arizona joined a growing number of states allowing winners of big lottery jackpots to stay anonymous Wednesday after Republican Gov. Doug Ducey signed legislation letting winners of jackpots of $100,000 or more request that their names not be made public. The move comes as privacy concerns are increasingly trumping lottery groups' wishes to publicize winners to boost sales and show that the games are fair. Four years ago, just five states allowed anonymous winners, but the number has now g

Growing number of states move to shield lottery winners
Some States allow winners of huge jackpots in MM PB to decline the invitation to be interviewed. California has done this. This debate will take the wisdom of Solomon to decide which way to proceed. Looking overseas the lotteries there have granted winners the right to say NO to being interviewed by the media. So far so good.

Powerball winner-turned lawmaker opposes anonymity for lottery prizewinners
Interesting post. In one hand they have Tipton who is a poster boy for transparency and in the other they have a jackpot winner from 7 years ago that is still being hit up for donations . MM and PB winning jackpots are few and far between and with 44 jurisdictions, some haven't had a winner, if any in years so we can't really blame they for wanting a jackpot winners story. If it comes down to a compromise and if I had a vote, it would be for very limited transparency only giving the name o

Canada's Lotto Max to increase jackpot, add drawing in May
Maybe MUSL will copy Lotto Max and say their MM $3 jackpot only option as has odds of 150 million to 1. About a quarter of the way down the how to play Lotto Max page it suggests group play, pool your funds with co-workers . Had to chuckle because pooling didn't work out very well for another BC group of co-workers. Be nice if MUSL had a jackpot game that capped the top prize and rolled the excess when the jackpot isn't won. Doubt that will every happen because it's obvious players want $1/2

How much do you actually get for smaller winnings? + Problems claming <$599 prizes?
For both the PB and the MM jackpots the cash value is much less than the one advertised. Next week's PB's jackpot will be $750 million, but the cash value is $465 million. Plus, almost 45% goes to federal and state taxes. But what about the other winnings, like the $1 million dollar prize, for example. Is the cash value still $1 million and then you just pay federal and state taxes? The same goes for $200,000 and for $50,000, $500, etc? Have you guys ever had any problems claiming $599 prizes
