It doesn't really matter what numbers you chose for the Powerball/Mega Millions right?
Shooting for Match-5 in PB or MM is logical, since it's many times more likely. However, from a financial standpoint, it's a lousy bet, since the odds are so bad compared to what they once were. Several years ago, odds of Match-5 was 1 in 3.9 million for MM and something like 1 in 5.3 million for PB. Take a look at what the odds are now. Playing with the intent of winning 2nd isn't worthwhile for PB nor MM anymore. In my view, PB / MM are maybe worth playing is when the cash jackpot is at least

$435 MILLION: Powerball lottery jackpot on track to 17-month high
I am considering taking the Annuity. We are all living longer. Longer than our parents. I could still be here in thirty years. I will have what are called do-overs. Years when I make mistakes and learn from them. I know that I am too generous a person. I would give too much of a lump sum away. I could be a soft touch like Emily Leach was. May she RIP. Emily was the winner who handed out $100.00 bills and a winning ticket. I will learn from her experience and will not do what she did.

Billlion-dollar Jackpot for PB
Ticket sales since the big jackpot was hit have slowed down quite a bit since then. The annuity JP was at 334 million and for that drawing there was 108 million in sales for that drawing. It rolled and the advertised JP started out at 400 million but went to 528 million with ticket sales of 352 million for the drawing. The next drawing started out with a advertised 675 JP but went to 947 million with ticket sales of 880 million. Since then here a few examples of how ticket sales are nowhere near

lf you won $1million could you see yourself retiring?
Funny you would ask this, I was thinking about this just a few days ago. We have a 2Lucky for Life type lottery here since the 70ies, you win 2M and they used to pay it as an annuity that would pay ~7500 monthly, and now you can also get it in a lump sum. I think that is a great amount, that's 2 or more wages for a lifetime without having to work. Your average employee is not going to make more in their career unless they really apply themselves and dedicate their life to their profession.

Contested lottery winner
How was that situation any different than in any other store? It happened in 1991 when a player asked for five $1 tickets and a clerk printed a $5 Lotto America ticket. According the story, the store owner told the clerks to try and sell mistake tickets because if they didn't, the store had to buy them. When and how the ticket was bought was moot to the South Dakota Lottery because for them there was no question who they should pay off: the person who presents the ticket and whose name is o

Why Powerball?
Finally someone sees the light. It's just elementary school math, but you have to take the trouble to pay attention to it. I think most people just don't bother. I understand that when it's the occasional player, but not when it's people who go to the trouble of posting to a website about the lottery. Even stranger when it's somebody who specifically claims that they understand the odds. Case in point: 50,000 tickets containing all five winning numbers change the practical Jackpot odds

N.J. Gov. proposes using lottery funds to fix pension hole
Under the state Constitution, lottery proceeds must be spent on state institutions and state aid for education. The state pays a number of costs on behalf of local school districts that can be categorized as aid, including the employer share of the Teachers' Pension and Annuity Fund. It's unclear where that leaves the programs currently funded by the lottery, though the governor's office said they will be covered by the state budget. But without the dedicated funding source from the lotter

No more roll-overs after tonight's Powerball drawing?
You can find the info about the next jackpot on the TX lottery website. It usually gets posted by early afternoon of the drawing date, but sometimes it's up earlier and occasionally a bit later. Just plug in the appropriate date at the end: http://www.txlottery.org/export/sites/lottery/Documents/jackpotestimates/pb20170215.pdf As of now they're reporting total sales for the run (through this Saturday's drawing) of about $675 million, which would be 337.5 million tickets. The chances of a r

Man wins lottery on his birthday thanks to mom's advice
I could not find payment schedule for this game's annuity. I am not able to link, but Louis Sgambellone won the same game. He receives a check from the Lottery quarterly for about $45,000, after state and federal taxes have been taken out. No other info given. Eighteen-year-old Robert Salo of Brooklyn: As a top prize winner on the Win $1,000 A Week For Life scratch-off, Salo is guaranteed to receive a minimum payment of $1,000,000 over 20 years. Once the $1,000,000 prize has been realized, he

Powerball increases above the minimum on the first roll
Powerplay number is drawn by RNG. All other numbers for the game are balls drawn from a tumbler. Odds of the powerplay numbers as follows: x2=1 in 1.79 x3=1 in 3.31 x4=1 in 14.33 x5=1 in 1 in 21.5 x10=1 in 43 So it's easy to see that x10 with 1 in 43 odds of being selected is not going to happen very often. x10 is only available when the annuity jackpot is less than $150 million.
