wander73 win 2 millions in Powerball last night with Power play in PA
It's not good first to go through social media and forum. Yes its nice that someone on here like lottoking or someone else to win big. The lottery commission won't make mention of it unless that person does come forward and so much can happen. Would I make mention on this site? It depends but naturally I have heard from some exactly what to do. The PB has the worst odds in that game since that matrix changed things and before the powerplay was actually decent to try and win on double. M

First thing you would buy if you won $415 Million?
500+ Million? Half a billion? I think they are trying to compete with powerball now! Lol. i would probably take the annuity amount. Unless, it's better to take cash and have the taxes already out. I would do very simple things staring off: I'd probably buy a house in someplace with great geography (I met a friend during a visit last year and we spent every morning hiking a couple thousand feet in elevation thru the mansions and penthouses of Glendale/Burbank California. The first coup

Do you play alone or in a pool?
I didn't realize you were calculating on an annuity prize of $100 mil. Thought that was cash value. In that case, like you said, the cash prize split 10 ways would be approximately 6.5 - 7 mil before taxes. When someone wins, the lottery takes out only 25% of the taxes due to the IRS (and a portion of state taxes) and you are responsible for the balance. The maximum fed tax is 39.6% less the 25% leaves you owing 14.6% come April 15 the following year. In NY State, the tax rate is 8.82%

So, what would you do?
For me the current powerball lump sum would be about $13,647,000 after federal and state taxes. $10 million would be invested. 1/4 of it would be put in an immediate pay annuity currently paying out 5%. The rest would be in various income funds, bonds, etc. I figure I can safely take 4% a year and never run out of money. That should give me about $286,000 a year after taxes (I'm moving immediately to a no tax state). I have my retirement fund that can be invested more aggressively to hel

Do you buy tickets even when the jackpot isn't high?
The current cash value is $269.7 million and about 2.14 times smaller than the $577 million each of the three winning tickets get. $577 million is the imaginary amount they would have gotten by taking the annuity and waiting 29 years for it to trickle in. The two winners that have come forward (like the vast majority of winners before them) chose the cash value and got just under $328 million. The only affect the cash value or payments is the obvious; higher jackpots create higher ticke

Has anyone noticed the change?
Actually, both the PB and Lotto Texas calculations are the same, procedure-wise. (The details like rates of return probably differ, of course.) From the Lotto Texas procedures: The interest factor is calculated by dividing the advertised jackpot by the estimated cost, including the initial payment required, to fund an investment stream that would yield the total advertised jackpot over a 30-year period . The estimated cost is based on investment information from appropriate financial institut

Mega Millions and Powerball both at/over $1 Billion. Your thoughts?
I voted good idea because it has never happened before and, I think it would be fun. I play for the entertainment. I took a grad level stats course as required for my PhD program so, I am well aware the odds are greater that: I will be struck by lightning - twice; attacked by a shark; play for the LA Lakers; be abducted by aliens from outer space; win an Oscar; and become President of the United States. I really get sick of hearing about it every time the news media starts in on the

Record $1.6 billion Powerball jackpot won by 3 tickets
Winner, winner, chicken dinner! California has the biggest population (around 39M peeps) therefore it's never surprising that someone wins from CA. Florida is ranked number 3 on the list (around 20M peeps) in population, again not a surprise here. (note that New York has around the same amount of peeps) and Tennessee is ranked number 17 on the list (around 6.6M peeps) defied the odds both winning again under these new odds of 292M to 1 on November 4, 2015 ($144.1M annuity
