Rant About Greedy Non-Winners
Hey Folks :) I am so glad I found this forum, it has definitely given me some great ideas on what to do and what not to do if I ever win. Lately I've been looking over some of the lottery success stories and one thing that I found of interest in a 2008 article on the idahopress site was about Brad Duke's dream to meet Metallica. Brad planned for fun, too. When he first won, he announced intentions to splurge on a new house, car, mountain bike, a trip with friends and a meeting with his

Poker, Probability, and Physics
I picked up a Discover Magazine today in a waiting room and found an article that might be of interest here. The Blog pointed to here belongs to the object of the article, who is the husband of the author. I especially like his response to the first comment! http://discover.coverleaf.com/discovermagazine/201011?folio=58 pg60#pg60 The article itself is linked at the top of the Blog. BTW, if you're persistant, you can blow it up to a readable type size! Here's a teaser: Chess is like cl

Statistics around the balance of even/odd and small/big numbers
Don Catlin addresses this indirectly very well in this article: http://catlin.casinocitytimes.com/article/lottery-nonsense-8694 Here, he uses the example of the fact that in 5 ball lotto games there is a bell shaped distribution curve of the sums of all the five number sets. He points out that if prizes were paid for matching your set's sum with the lottery draw's sum, it would be a good idea to choose sets whose sums appear the most often. But this is not the game we play! Winners h

How much do you have to win in order to be...
I had meant to quote hearsetrax, so my post probably didn't come across as I meant for it to. It was about the article he posted, I only read the part of wealth and it annoyed me. It just stereotyped rich people saying all they do is buy stuff to one up their friends. The website also used data that noted Nigeria as having a big increase in happiness as meaning Nigerians are happier than people anywhere else in the world. In reality they weren't even shown on the list of places with the happiest

Lotto tickets lead cops to murder suspect
So did I scan that correctly? They got the guy's DNA off his playslips? As has become SOP in modern news reporting, the story reports a couple of facts and then ignores all the questions they raise. The story mentions the DNA but doesn't tell us how it helped, other than showing he had been there. Anyone else who was in there that day may have left some DNA behind, too, but it doesn't tell you when they wer htere or what they did while they were there. I had to reread the article to see if

Focusing On Winning The Lottery Is A Fruitless Event
Raven, you started this topic by copying the following URL word for word and not giving credit to the source. http://healing.about.com/cs/selfactualization/a/lawofattraction.htm Then you continued to answer, using the same source (the $400 auto repair) with no reference to the article. Are you the person who wrote the article? I say this because of some discussions I've had with those who have held this desire. They have shared what they would do with the winnings if they won. is

Lotteries long for 'jackpot fever'
If the jackpots don't get quite as high it's because MORE STATES ARE PLAYING and PEOPLE ARE WINNING JACKPOTS MORE OFTEN. That isn't how it works. How often the jackpots are won is and always will be a function of the odds, but probability is only a trend and there will be variations on both sides of the norm. The more people play the more money goes into the prize pool and the higher the jackpots get. More people playing means more winners, but it also means more money for prizes at the s

Todd, I hope it's ok that I copied this article from the www.biggamelottery website. I thought it would make for good reading and conversation! If You Win the Lottery, Take the Lump Sum and Invest By RONALD LIPMAN Q. Vt. Lottery computer glitch creates extra winners
TRUECRITIC: A test of the terminal could be any kind of thing printed and is likely not in a form of a playable ticket, especially the barcode info.. Any kind of printed pattern is a binary response. The tickets were printed on demand, just like a report. A bigger question is the correlation between the error and the Winning set drawn. A very unique event. There are no retractions on the article that a lottery official was misquoted. The man was quoted and it stands. I say the idea th
